Ballarat Synthetic racing tips

Race 1. (12:30) Porter Plant Maiden (1100m)

#7 – Olatunde @ $1.75

Punters must take short odds with Olatunde, but he should be putting this field away with ease.

The three-year-old gelding by Farnan has raced at Sandown and consecutive races at Caulfield, so dropping in class should see him perform better.

This should be a soft kill for him, so take the shorts.

Stake: 4 Units

Race 2. (13:00) Global Turl Maiden (1100m)

#12 – Snowball @ $15.00

Snowball showed good improvement when running fourth at Ballarat last start, which came on this track.

Having experience on the track adds to her appeal, and rising in distance should only help her chances of getting off the mark.

Punters get value odds, so put her in the mix.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (13:30) Brandt Maiden (1400m)

#11 – Wherewithal @ $2.30

Wherewithal wasn’t far away when running third on debut at Cranbourne before spelling, and she could return as a stronger type.

The four-year-old mare by Snitzel was prepared with a trial at Warrnambool, so she looks ready to show her best, as the betting markets suggest.

Take the $2.30 odds before it continues to firm.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 4. (14:00) Eureka Concrete Maiden (2100m)

#5 – Just Landed @ $8.50

Just Landed is getting close to breaking through after posting seven placings from 16 starts, and he doesn’t need to improve too much to win.

The five-year-old son of Alpine Eagle looked good when finishing second in consecutive runs earlier this preparation, so the form checks out.

Take the generous each-way odds in an open race.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (14:30) McGrath Ballarat BM64 (2100m)

#3 – Edzel @ $2.60

Looking to justify favouritism is Edzel, who should have won last time out, and we’re happy to stick with him.

The late-maturing seven-year-old worked home well for third after settling too far back, and he doesn’t need to improve to win this race.

Getting the inside draw should see him settle handy.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 6. (15:00) Manhari BM64 (1000m)

#3 – El Pibe De Oro @ $3.90

El Pibe De Oro has been around the mark this preparation, including a win two back and a second placing last time out.

The four-year-old son of Neorealism has yet to finish worse than second in three career starts at Ballarat Synthetic, which is a tidy record.

We’re happy to back him again at the odds.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 7. (15:30) Hygain Winners Choice BM58 (1400m)

#2 – Absolute Sunshine @ $2.05

The odds are short for Absolute Sunshine, who is only a two-time winner, but he has been threatening to score another win.

He owns four placings from four starts at the track, and against a field that’s there for the taking, he could score an overdue win.

Take the odds before late money comes for him.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 8. (16:00) Fast Form BM58 (1400m)

#9 – Magic Edition @ $9.00

Boasting two wins from three starts this preparation is Magic Edition, who faces a stronger field, but she’s running well.

The seven-year-old mare by Sports Edition is a four-time winner overall, including a win at Ballarat, so the form checks out.

She gets the inside draw and punters get value odds.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 9. (16:30) Hygain Winners Choice BM58 (1200m)

#1 – Infinite Matrix @ $7.50

Punters get value odds for Infinite Matrix, who didn’t fire last time out, but he should appreciate running on the synthetic for the first time.

The eight-year-old son of Choisir is a five-time winner overall, including a win at Terang two back, so his recent form is solid.

He’s worth including in picks at the current odds.

Stake: 1 Unit
