Ballina racing tips

Race 1. (13:50) NBN News Maiden (1400m)

#1 – Mulled @ $5.00

Mulled is the stablemate to the $1.50 favourite, but there is better value with the untried six-year-old.

It might have taken some time to get to the races, but the son of Furnaces wasn’t asked for much in a recent trial, and there has been betting support.

He gets all favours off the inside draw, so keep him safe.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 2. (14:25) Paradise FM BM82 (1590m)

#6 – Do It For You @ $3.10

Do It For You has turned his form around this preparation with wins at Lismore, and he looks like a good chance to make it a hattrick.

The six-year-old son of Harbinger gets in well at the weights at 55kg, and he should be tough to beat from there.

The $3.10 could firm close to start time.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (15:00) Virtual Golf Centre C1 (1900m)

#8 – Pass the Peak @ $3.50

Pass the Peak turned his form around with a win at Ipswich, and the rise in distance was a factor, so rising to 1900m is ideal.

The three-year-old son of Alpine Eagle looks set to enjoy staying races, and having good barrier speed should make it tough to beat.

His odds have drifted after opening at $2.45, but punters shouldn’t be worried.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 4. (15:35) Douse Fire Protection Maiden (1000m)

#10 – Miss Wildcat @ $2.35

Knocking on the door of a win is Miss Wildcat, who owns three placings from four starts, and she doesn’t need to improve much to win.

The three-year-old filly by Jungle Cat comes off three consecutive runs at Gold Coast, and racing at Ballina won’t do her chances any harm.

She should lead off the inside draw and kick strongly.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 5. (16:10) Ballina RSL Maiden (1250m)

#9 – Caramelfudgesundae @ $7.00

Punters should be licking their lips at the prospect of cashing with Caramelfudgesundae, who has gone close at times this season.

The Liam Birchley-trained filly owns five placings from 10 starts, including one two starts back at Doomben, and it’s about time she won.

The stable is firing, so take the $7 odds from bookmakers.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 6. (16:50) Mancave Ballina Fair BM66 (1000m)

#3 – Jewels Statement @ $5.00

Punters are met with an even betting field, where Jewels Statement is the loose $5 favourite.

The five-year-old mare by owns a win and a placing from three starts, and running on soft conditions is right up her alley.

Money has come for her, so include at the current odds.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 7. (17:30) Tab BM58 (1250m)

#11 – Glam @ $9.00

Glam hasn’t been consistent in her five career starts, but she just needs things to go her way from out wide to be competitive here.

The three-year-old filly for Matthew Dunn owns a win from five starts, and she wasn’t far away at Grafton last time out.

Jett Newman is riding well, so include her in picks.

Stake: 1 Unit
