Canberra racing tips

Race 1. (13:20) John McGrath Auto BM50 (1206m)

#11 – Into the Fire @ $4.50

Money has come for Into the Fire, who won at Canberra two back before placing second at this track last start.

The eight-year-old has enough experience to handle this field, and although it’s an even betting field, there is value with the $4.50 price.

He only needs some cover to warrant the odds.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (14:35) Tab Federal Maiden (1280m)

#6 – Wolf Island @ $2.80

Wolf Island showed improvement when running third last start, and something close to that run is good enough to win this race.

The three-year-old son of Capitalist has more upside than most runners in this field and getting 2kg off his back only helps.

Include the $2.80 odds in horse racing multis.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 4. (15:10) Hops & Hooves Maiden (1080m)

#1 – Li’l Grug @ $5.50

Punters get value odds for Li’l Grug, who wasn’t far away from breaking through at Kembla Grange last time out.

The four-year-old son of Sooboog handles all track conditions, and despite opening at $3.80 and drifting, he should be tough to hold out.

If he gets cover from out wide, he could finish off best.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (15:50) Polytrack Stayers Cup (1900m)

#8 – Heir Jordan @ $4.00

Heir Jordan comes off a tidy win at Canberra, so having winning form at the track adds to his appeal.

The six-year-old son of Spieth has yet to finish worse than second at Canberra, including two wins, so we’re not leaving him out.

Getting in with 55kg on his back should make him tough to beat, so back him confidently.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 6. (16:25) Glen Mia Saddlery Sprinters Cup (1206m)

#1 – Take the Rap @ $2.60

Take the Rap owns five wins from 10 starts, which is an excellent record for this level of racing.

The four-year-old son of Star Turn comes off an impressive win at Wagga, and he paid only $1.75, so getting $2.60 is an improvement.

Take the odds before late bets come for the favourite.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 7. (17:00) Tab Same Race Multi C2 (1080m)

#6 – Soo Crazy @ $5.50

Seeking back-to-back wins is Soo Crazy, who scored at this track by a whopping 6.5 lengths, and that’s an excellent form guide.

The four-year-old son of Sooboog showed good barrier speed and lead throughout, and he should adopt similar tactics on Friday.

Getting $5.50 is a better price than we expected.

Stake: 2 Units
