Canberra racing tips

Race 1. (13:35) Maree Van Arkel Real Estate BM65 (1000m)

#8 – Vainstream @ $5.50

Punters get each-way odds for Vainstream, who won well two back at Gundagai before placing at Wagga last time out.

The 11-year-old is no spring chicken, but he keeps producing good performances, and we’re happy to keep backing him.

Getting 1.5kg off his back is enough to take him close.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (14:45) Happy Birthday Macca BM60 (1600m)

#2 – Dolce Dior @ $4.20

Dolce Dior ended last preparation with a win at Orange, and that victory came by 5.8 lengths.

The Peter Snowden-trained mare isn’t always the most consistent type going around, but she is a handy stayer on her day.

Money has come her, and her odds could keep shortening.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 4. (15:25) Mane Lodge Spelling & Transport Maiden (1400m)

#3 – Colorado Sun @ $5.50

Colorado Sun hasn’t been far away in two starts this preparation, including a second placing at Wagga fresh up.

The three-year-old son of Toronado will only be better with racing under his belt, and it won’t take him long to win a race.

The $5.50 odds are worth including in picks.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (16:05) Potter Personal Training C1 (2000m)

#12 – Sweet Twilight @ $1.90

Looking to cap off solid form is Sweet Twilight, who owns three placings from five starts.

The three-year-old filly by Trapeze Artist ran well for second at Kembla Grange two back, and she wasn’t far away when fourth at Newcastle.

Getting in with 55kg is enough to take her close.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 6. (16:40) Potter Racing Maiden (1200m)

#10 – Divine Secrets @ $4.50

Punters get each-way odds for Divine Secrets, who is better than what she showed in three starts last campaign.

The three-year-old filly by Deep Field showed good speed when running second at the Randwick trials, which is a good sign.

She’s in good hands with Peter Snowden, so include her in picks.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 7. (17:15) Tab Federal Handicap (1300m)

#8 – Xcessive Force @ $2.00

The four-year-old mare is a smart type in the making after posting three wins and two placings from five starts.

She scored an effortless win last time out by two lengths, and the daughter of Brutal could have bigger targets in sight.

Carrying 55kg is ideal, so take the $2 available.

Stake: 3.5 Units

Race 8. (17:55) Mike Cramsie Memorial C1 (1300m)

#5 – Wolf Island @ $6.50

Value is with Wolf Island, who has a win and four placings from his last five starts.

The three-year-old son of Capitalist scored his maiden win at Canberra, so getting back to his track helps his cause.

His odds are likely to keep shortening on race day.

Stake: 1.5 Units
