Punters get value odds for Trooper, who has had three runs this preparation to prepare for this race.
The four-year-old son of Star Turn ran third at Geelong fresh up before adding a fourth to his record, and coming to Canberra should be easier.
He’s a good pick in the opening race on Black Opal Stakes Day.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Oneforian is shooting for three consecutive wins after scoring at Gundagai and Sapphire Coast.
The five-year-old hasn’t taken on much in terms of opposition, but he owns five wins and four placings from 15 starts, so take nothing away from him.
Tommy Berry rides, which adds to his appeal.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Vella’s Best is another runner gunning for three consecutive wins after scoring twice to end his last preparation.
The four-year-old son of Headwater owns four wins from nine starts, and with two of those coming fresh up, he should have plenty of admirers.
Barrier four is ideal, and he could hit the ground running.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Buckeye has been a tough watch for punters, but after getting rolled as a $1.35 favourite last start, the $3.10 odds are juicy.
The three-year-old son of Zousain owns five placings from eight starts, and he could be given a soft ride from the car park barrier draw.
Being ridden more patiently could reap rewards.
Stake: 2 Units
We’re giving the former Kiwi a pass mark for her ninth at Rosehill, and she should enjoy racing at Canberra.
The Michael Freedman-trained filly owns two wins and two placings from five starts, and she will love being down in the weights at 54kg.
She’s an excellent each-way bet in the Guineas.
Stake: 2 Units
Looking for consecutive wins is Zouatica, who scored by 1.8 lengths in open company at Sapphire Coast last time out.
The six-year-old son of Zoustar won his only start at Canberra, and he’s also a five-time winner over the distance, which reads well.
Carrying 54kg is ideal, and he only needs luck from the draw.
Stake: 1 Unit
Punters get value odds for Eviction Notice, who comes off a second placing behind Stretan Ruler, who is a live Golden Slipper chance.
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained colt has good barrier speed, so the wide draw isn’t a concern, and he looks to have more ability than most in this field.
The each-way odds are generous, and he should give punters a good sight.
Stake: 2 Units
Campaldino did enough for us when running fifth fresh up, and he was always going to improve with the run.
The Waterhouse/Bott stable has an excellent record at this meeting, and he showed class last prep when stringing four wins together.
Tim Clark riding from barrier three is ideal, so include him in picks.
Stake: 2 Units
Bjorn Baker lines up Olufsen, who won on debut before posting back-to-back fourths at Canterbury and Wyong.
The four-year-old son of Zoustar is bred to be better than average, and we expect the Baker stable to have some success at this meeting.
It could come in the final race on the card.
Stake: 1 Unit
