Canterbury racing tips

Race 1. (12:50) Tab Maiden (1200m)

#5 – Burma Star @ $4.60

Burma Star moves from Godolphin to the Chris Waller stable, and that could make the winning difference on Wednesday.

The three-year-old colt by Exceed and Excel hasn’t been too far away from breaking through, and his recent trial form has been solid.

Having James McDonald in the saddle is ideal, so take the $4.60.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 2. (13:25) Keeneland September Yearling Sale BM64 (1550m)

#1 – Delrico @ $6.00

Delrico is improving with every run this preparation, culminating in a second placing at Canterbury last time out.

The four-year-old son of Kingman owns a win and five placings overall, and he’s good enough to beat this midweek field.

2kg comes off his back, and punters get better odds than expected.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 3. (14:00) The Agency Real Estate BM64 (1100m)

#13 – Southern Heiress @ $3.50

Looking to remain unbeaten is Southern Heiress, who scored by Newcastle by 3.3 lengths over a short distance.

That was an impressive win from the three-year-old filly by Snitzel, who is bred for speed, and she showed plenty of it.

We’re backing her to remain unbeaten despite the rise in class.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 4. (14:35) Schweppes BM64 (1100m)

#2 – Shalaa Gold @ $5.50

Shalaa Gold doesn’t know how to run a bad race after posting a win and five placings, including a third placing fresh up at Canterbury.

Having experience on the track is ideal, and although barrier 14 doesn’t help his chances, he only needs a touch of luck from out there.

Look for him to settle back and work into the race late.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (15:10) Casino Prince Vinery Stud BM72 (1550m)

#3 – Bat out of Hell @ $4.60

Boasting good speed is Bat out of Hell, who is overdue a win after posting placings at Warwick Farm and Randwick.

The six-year-old son of Hellbent has missed a win or placing at Canterbury only once from six starts, which is an impressive record.

The odds are shortening, so take the each-way price.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 6. (15:45) Ranvet BM72 (1250m)

#6 – The Extreme Cat @ $16.00

Punters get value odds with The Extreme Cat, who turned his form around with a fourth at Kembla Grange last time out.

The six-year-old son of Extreme Choice is a four-time winner from 18 starts, with two wins coming with Ashley Morgan in the saddle.

It’s not an easy race, but the odds make him a worthwhile bet.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 7. (16:20) Asahi Super Dry BM72 (1900m)

#9 – Bright Red @ $4.80

Bright Red is much better than a three-time winner, but we’re happy to give her another chance against this level of opposition.

The Waller/McDonald combination could strike to close the day, and with two second placings from two starts at Canterbury, she looks ready to win.

Take the each-way odds before late money comes for her.

Stake: 2 Units
