Caulfield racing tips

Race 1. (12:20) A Caulfield Kind of Summer BM100 (1700m)

#5 – Taken @ $2.45

Taken didn’t fire in a tough race at Pakenham last start, which ended his run of wins, but he could bounce back in a big way.

The four-year-old son of Ardrossan owns five wins and five placings from 11 starts, so it was the first time he had missed the money.

He has been given a freshen up, and he could hit back nicely.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 2. (12:50) Blue Diamond Preview (1000m)

#1 – Eurocanto @ $3.70

Eurocanto showed his potential when winning the Maribyrnong Trial on debut, and although that race has mixed form over the last few years, it was a good win.

The Hayes-trained colt could go from strength to strength, and the son of Per Incanto is bred to enjoy this level of racing.

He’s an early Blue Diamond contender, so include him in picks.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 3. (13:25) Blue Diamond Preview Fillies (1000m)

#1 – Streisand @ $7.50

Having form on the board could be enough for Streisand to score a victory after two placings to start her career.

The two-year-old filly by Magnus ran second in two starts at Flemington, with one coming behind Eurocanto on debut. That form could be franked in the colts and geldings race.

She just needs luck from barrier 11 to go close.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 4. (14:00) Remembering Ted Ryan BM70 (1400m)

#14 – Supercilious @ $5.00

Despite having only one win on her record, we’re happy to give Supercilious another chance on Saturday.

The four-year-old mare by Written Tycoon ran fourth at Caulfield two back before finishing fifth at Geelong, and she has room for improvement.

Look for her to settle back and come with a late run.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (14:35) The Mary Bell BM74 (1100m)

#2 – Along the River @ $7.00

Along the River is nearing a win after back-to-back second placings, including a fighting effort at Flemington last start.

The seven-year-old was a short margin behind Gallant Son, and we rate that form slightly better than what he faces on Saturday despite rising in class from BM70.

He’s fit and ready to score an overdue win.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 6. (15:10) Vale Durston BM78 (2000m)

#7 – Steel Run @ $7.00

Steel Run looked like a nice type in the making last season, so we’re including him in our picks.

The five-year-old owns two wins and two placings from seven starts, including a fresh up win, and he could hit the ground running.

If he gets cover from the draw, he could be too tough for them over 2000m.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 7. (15:45) W.J. Adams Stakes (1000m)

#6 – Geegees Mistruth @ $4.20

Mark Walker takes over the training for Geegees Mistruth, who was unlucky not to score a win during the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

The former Tasmanian ran second at Caulfield behind Rey Magnerio before placing behind Caballus on Derby Day at Flemington.

It’s hot form, and she deserves a win in Melbourne.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 8. (16:25) Quayclean Manfred Stakes (1200m)

#6 – Salty Pearl @ $6.50

Salty Pearl has the class advantage, and although her most recent win came over 1600m, she can sprint.

The three-year-old filly by Tagaloa owns a win and two placings from three starts over 1200m, and punters should expect a nice fresh up effort.

She has bigger races in store as a Group 2 winner, so look for betting support.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 9. (17:05) Evergreen Turf John Dillon Stakes (1400m)

#2 – Zou Sensation @ $3.20

Zou Sensation owns three wins from five starts at Caulfield, and after winning at Flemington last start, he’s in winning form.

The six-year-old son of Zoustar meets an even field on Saturday, so the nine-time winner could make the most of the situation.

Look for him to settle handy and give a good kick.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 10. (17:40) Sportsbet More Places BM78 (1600m)

#5 – Touchdown @ $2.30

Team Hayes has a nice type on their hands with Touchdown, who could keep winning during the summer months.

The four-year-old gelding by Almanzor has four wins and two placings from six starts, including three wins on the bounce this prep.

There was a touch of class about his last win at Caulfield, so include him in picks.

Stake: 2.5 Units
