Caulfield racing tips
—
Xtra Rush couldn’t keep his unbeaten run going at Flemington last time out, but he could get back to his best on Saturday.
The five-year-old gelding by Xtravagant owns four wins from five starts, and he should appreciate running at Caulfield for the first time.
Dropping to 54.5kg makes him tough to hold out.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Punters get value odds for Oh Too Good, who is a proven fresh up winner of two from three starts, and she’s paying better odds than expected.
The six-year-old mare by All Too Hard also has good form at Caulfield, and it’s only the 58kg that should worry punters.
We’re happy to include her in our picks at the odds.
Stake: 1 Unit
Gunning for consecutive wins at Caulfield is Harry’s Yacht, who has lived up his potential this season with a couple of wins.
The four-year-old son of Harry Angel owns seven wins and four placings from 21 starts, including two wins and a placing at Caulfield.
Getting in with 54kg makes him awfully tough to beat.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Teine Aulelei is much better than her form suggests, and we’re happy to include her in picks at the each-way odds.
The Luke Oliver-trained filly is much better than a one-win type, and she ran third behind superstar Sheza Alibi at Flemington during the Melbourne Spring Carnival.
Carrying a light weight could be all she needs to post a win.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Seeking back-to-back wins is High on the Hill, who looks to take the rise from provincial to city racing.
The three-year-old colt won by two lengths at Kilmore as a $1.35 chance, so there was plenty of money on his back.
Punters get better odds here, which are worth taking.
Stake: 1 Unit
Colour our World runs at generous double-figure odds, who comes off a second placing at Ararat.
The four-year-old mare by Blue Point is only a two-time winner, but she also has 10 placings from 18 starts, so she’s never too far away.
54kg on her back is enough to take her close.
Stake: 1 Unit
On the quick back-up is Miss Chanel, who ran third behind Chayan at Randwick last Saturday.
The two-year-old filly by Tagaloa has yet to win from four starts, but she owns three placings behind some of the best going around.
Barrier 11 isn’t easy, but she’s the best horse in the race.
Stake: 2 Units
Buckaroo produced a great performance to finish second behind Pericles last start, which is a good guide for this race.
The seven-year-old son of Fastnet Rock loves racing at Caulfield with six starts for a win and five placings, and we don’t see that record taking a hit.
His odds have drifted, but punters shouldn’t be concerned.
Stake: 2 Units
On the back-up after running last Saturday is Salty Pearl, who was a victim of the track bias at Flemington.
The Ciaron Maher-trained filly comes off three consecutive placings this preparation, and she’s a classy filly at her best, so she won’t take long to win.
Look for her to settle slightly closer to the speed before putting them away.
Stake: 2.5 Units
It’s great to see Jigsaw back to his best after stringing four consecutive wins together, including a Group 1 win at Ellerslie in New Zealand.
The Cindy Alderson-trained gelding has 13 wins on his record, including three at Caulfield, and he deserves to be the favourite.
61kg isn’t easy, but he is the one to beat.
Stake: 1.5 Units
