Caulfield racing tips
—
Ciaron Maher lines up Immortal Star, who won well at Sale two back before placing at Flemington last time out.
The four-year-old daughter of I Am Invincible will need to carry a big weight, but she gets 1.5kg off her back, and it doesn’t have a huge impact over 1200m.
She is the class runner in the field, so she goes on top.
Stake: 1.5 Units
The five-year-old son of Reliable Man is struggling to win races, but he’s never too far away from the prize.
Most of his best form has come in strong midweek races, but this is a BM78-graded affair, and it’s not the strongest weekend field we’ve seen.
He’s fit after two runs, so include him in picks.
Stake: 1 Unit
Seeking three consecutive wins is Rich on Bubbles, and winning form is good against a field containing no other winners.
The Hayes-trained gelding didn’t fire on debut at Flemington before winning at Pakenham and Murray Bridge. That form is good enough to beat this field, especially after winning by 4.3 lengths last start.
We expect another top effort, and money should come for him.
Stake: 2.5 Units
We expected Getta Good Feeling to improve with time this preparation, but she got off the mark with a terrific Inglis Sprinters win.
It was an outstanding effort to score over 1200m against sprinters, and it’s no surprise to see an Oaks runner rising in distance to the mile.
We believe 1600m is her best distance, so she could dominate this race.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Looking to make a winning return is King Zephyr, who owns six wins from 10 starts, and he competed against some strong fields last preparation.
The five-year-old son of Hallowed Crown won at Sandown before placing behind Zou Sensation, and he is a group horse in the making.
He gets the inside draw, which could be enough to see him win.
Stake: 2 Units
Point Barrow was well-backed to win the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate fresh up, and although only fifth, it was a solid effort.
The three-year-old was always going to find it hard to make ground from the back of the field given the way the track was playing.
She’s fitter now, and this race is right up her alley.
Stake: 2 Units
If Treasurethe Moment can’t regain her winning form against this field, we might have to drop her from our future autumn picks.
The Matt Laurie-trained mare ran third behind Pericles at Group 1 level before being scratched last start, and this is a much easier contest.
She should run through multi bets on Saturday, and she shouldn’t let punters down.
Stake: 4.5 Units
Planet Red ran a huge race for second behind Observer last time out, and it was one of the better runs on the card.
The three-year-old son of Admire Mars has been waiting for a good chance to win, and he won’t get a better chance than on Saturday.
Rising to 2000m adds to his appeal, and he should account for this field with the right run.
Stake: 3 Units
We liked the way Regal Tycoon stuck on gamely for third at Flemington last start, which should be a good form guide.
The four-year-old mare by Written Tycoon gets in with 55kg, which is another positive, and she should enjoy racing at Caulfield for the first time.
We’re happy enough with the current odds from bookmakers.
Stake: 1 Unit
