Champions Stakes 2026 Betting Tips

The Group 1 Champions Stakes is one of the best Group 1 fields we have seen this season, and the field includes Cosmic Crusader, Aeliana, and Sir Delius. That’s an elite field, and a replay of the Cox Plate, so it’s going to be a must-see race at Flemington on the final day of the carnival.

Champions Stakes Runner-By-Runner Guide

The Cox Plate winner, and we’re not underrating his chances again. He’s one of the best in the land, and he could produce the same result on Saturday.

Barrier 11 should see him settle in the second half of the field, but he’s a better chaser, and he could finish over the top of them.

We’re taking the $3.20 as our best bet.

He didn’t fire last time out, and that’s not a good form guide for this race. We expect him to be on-speed, but he should struggle to stay with them over the final 200m.

A disappointing run in the Cox Plate, but by all accounts, the stable is happy with how he came through the run.

He’s one of the best 2000m horses in Australia, and although yet to win this season, we believe it’s only a matter of time before he wins.

The $6.50 is a good price, so include him for value.

He scored a good win two starts back before struggling to fire last time out, and we can’t see him bouncing back from that effort.

The odds are telling, and we can’t see beating this field.

Second in the Cox Plate, and that’s the best form guide for this race, which is why punters get each-way odds.

He gets all favours off the inside draw, and a soft trip in transit should be enough to see him fight out the finish.

We’re including him in Champions Stakes exotics.

A heroic performance to beat Sheza Alibi two back, but it was back down to earth last time out. He’ll need to repeat the magic to go close, and we can’t see it happening.

His last two starts were well below his best, and we have no interest in taking the big odds.

An impressive winner on Tuesday when dropping in class. Unsure if he’ll line up in this race, but he’s a first four chance if he does.

We see him settling back in the run and coming with a solid finish, which could be enough to fill a placing.

Third in the Geelong Cup behind Point of Law, who subsequently won the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday.

That’s staying form, and this is a 2000m race, so we’re unsure where to place him. He might struggle to keep up with the pace.

The current favourite and worth including in Champions Stakes picks. She looks to cap off three consecutive placings, including one behind Cosmic Crusader in the Cox Plate.

She was beaten on her merits in that race, which is why she’s not our top pick, but we’re not leaving her out of our picks.

She’s having a mixed campaign, and although she hasn’t been at her best this season, she is good enough to run well.

Barrier two could see her land on the speed, and that’s her best chance to kick away and try to steal the race.
