Darley Flight Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Apocalyptic (Best Bet – $1.90)
Money has come for Apocalyptic, who has been mightily impressive winning her last two starts at Randwick.
The three-year-old daughter of Extreme Choice didn’t have all favours in the run last start, but she was brilliant close to the line.
We’re not surprised by the short odds as she is clearly the one to beat.
(2) Artistic Venture ($12.00)
A first-four chance after showing good consistency this preparation, including a win two back followed by a second placing.
She is only a one-time winner, but she gets all favours off the inside draw, and we’re happy to include her in our Flight Stakes picks.
(3) Tupakara (Best Each Way – $6.50)
Looking to cap off five consecutive placings is Tupakara, who is good enough to score an upset over the favourite.
The filly by Trapeze Artist is good enough to handle this field, and she has more upside than most, apart from the top pick.
The $6.50 odds are good enough to take at each-way value.
(4) Within the Law ($7.50)
She is armed with a good turn-of-foot, but her lack of recent winning form is a worry.
We’re not leaving her out of our picks, but she needs to find a length to beat the favourite, and we’re not sure if she has the ability.
She is a trifecta and first-four chance.
(5) Queen of Clubs ($8.00)
The odds for Queen of Clubs are shorter than we expected, so we’re not interested in the $8 price from bookmakers.
She wasn’t far away when fourth last start, but she ran at $31 odds on that occasion, so it’s a significant firmer this time around.
(6) Karinska ($20.00)
She hasn’t been too far away recently, but she might be looking for something easier.
(8) Enviable ($23.00)
Another Chris Waller-trained runner looking for something easier. We don’t think she’s up to Group 1 level just yet.
(9) Reflect ($71.00)
Broke maidens at Kembla Grange last time out, and this is a massive rise in class. She shouldn’t measure up here.
(10) Magenta Skies (Best Roughie – $18.00)
A sneaky chance to win after scoring at Newcastle last start. It’s only provincial form, but we like the way she stretched out late.
Having Tim Clark riding is ideal, and she could settle closer to the pace this time around and give good cheek in the straight.
(11) Lighthouse Lass ($201.00)
Massive odds and rightfully so. Connections are having a crack, but she’s likely to come up short.
