Doncaster Mile Form Guide & Tips
(1) Gringotts (Best Roughie – $17.00)
It’s tough to win a Doncaster with the top weight, but he is running well after finishing second behind Autumn Glow last start.
That’s an excellent form guide, and punters get generous odds for the proven Group 1 type.
(2) Pericles ($14.00)
Another tough customer who won well fresh up before placing last time out. Not easy to beat the youngsters here, but we’re not leaving him out of first four picks.
(3) Headley Grange ($19.00)
Fifth behind Autumn Glow last start, and that should be one of the better form guide races for the Doncaster Mile.
He gets in with 54.5kg, and he can’t be forgotten about at nice odds.
(4) Evaporate ($17.00)
A tough type who ran second behind Tom Kitten two starts back. We don’t quite know where to place him in a Doncaster, so we’re leaving him out of our picks.
(5) Linebacker ($17.00)
An enigmatic type who is almost impossible to follow. The $17 odds are too short considering his inability to put everything together.
(6) Militarize ($51.00)
We have backed him almost every start this season, but he needs to find a few lengths to be competitive at this level.
He needs to show something before we include him in picks again.
(7) Autumn Boy (Best Each Way – $7.50)
Second behind Sheza Alibi two back before putting away a good field at Group 1 level by two lengths over 2000m.
Dropping back to the mile isn’t ideal, but he’s still good enough to run in the money, and punters get each-way odds to snap up.
(8) Steparty ($19.00)
He looked good when winning back-to-back races earlier this prep, but he had to go to Tasmania to get it done.
We priced him at $31, so the $19 odds are too short.
(9) Vivy Air ($27.00)
A nice run for third when fresh up, but she needs to repeat that and find another couple of lengths to win. We don’t see that happening against a tough field.
(10) Attica ($20.00)
The three-year-old isn’t yet the finished product, but he could struggle to keep up with the favourites, so we’re leaving him out of our Doncaster Mile picks.
(11) Cristal Clear ($34.00)
His fresh up win was good, but he has yet to win or place in three attempts at Randwick, and we don’t see that changing.
(12) Scheelite ($101.00)
A last-start winner, but we’re not surprised by the big odds. He will likely struggle in this class.
(13) Encap ($61.00)
Not an easy runner to follow, and he could be struggling to keep up.
(14) Hellsing ($151.00)
A Muswellbrook placing isn’t good enough form for this level, hence the odds.
(15) Sheza Alibi (Best Bet – $2.05)
A stunning type that quickly put pay to Autumn Boy last time out. She has a big motor, and we fancy her chances of making it five consecutive wins.
Getting in with 49kg makes it hard on the opposition to beat her, and her turn-of-foot could be too much for this field.
(16) Sixties ($12.00)
A three-time winner this prep, and he’s a good enough colt to include in picks at a light weight. Barrier 16 isn’t ideal, but he will settle handy and kick well.
