Doomben racing tips

Race 1. (12:33) Become a BRC Member Maiden (1200m)

#6 – Rock on Angel

Looking to improve on two placings is Rock on Angel, who ran third at Sunshine Coast on debut before placing at Grafton.

The five-year-old mare has been patiently handled throughout her career, and we like the way she hit the line last time out.

It’s an open field and she has plenty of upside.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 2. (13:08) Mekka Raceday Maiden (1640m)

#9 – She’s Got Lyrics

Tony Gollan lines up She’s Got Lyrics, who ran second at Gatton before finishing sixth at Eagle Farm last time out.

The five-year-old mare by Rubick wasn’t far away from the winner, so she’s ready to score a breakthrough win.

Barrier two is ideal, and punters could get each-way odds.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 3. (13:43) The Gibson C3 (2040m)

#2 – Akkadian Emperor

Class is with Akkadian Emperor, who wasn’t far away at Canterbury last time out, and Sydney form stacks up nicely.

The five-year-old son of Churchill is a two-time winner, and although coming to Queensland is a step down, it could result in an overdue win.

We expect shortening odds on race day.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 4. (14:18) Country Music Raceday C5 (1350m)

#4 – Blazen Boots

Blazen Boots is a three-time winner at Doomben, and he’s good enough to win this race fresh up.

The seven-year-old son of Tavistock owns four wins and six placings from 21 starts, and his most recent start was a second placing at Eagle Farm.

Look for a betting push in what could be a competitive betting affair.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (14:53) Trackside with Ricky Ponting Maiden (1350m)

#6 – Whispering Rogue

Looking to improve on consecutive placings is Whispering Rogue, who was a beaten $1.70 chance last time out.

The three-year-old son of Pierata is bred to be a nice type, and being on the quick back up after racing last week is ideal.

We expect some good bets to come for him on race day.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 6. (15:28) Sky Racing BM65 (1110m)

#11 – Lady Lucifer

Lady Lucifer has made a successful start to her career with two wins and three placings, including a fresh up win last preparation.

The David Vandyke-trained mare has every chance of making a winning return on Wednesday, and we expect some confident bets to come her way.

She gets the inside draw and Ryan Maloney in the saddle, which adds to our confidence.

Stake: 4 Units

Race 7. (16:03) XXXX Gold C1 (1350m)

#9 – Runaway Tycoon

Gunning for back-to-back wins is Runaway Tycoon, who broke maidens with an effortless 4.5-length victory.

The four-year-old son of Written Tycoon gets every chance to kick on with it, so we’re including him in picks.

We’re hoping for each-way odds from bookmakers.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 8. (16:38) Ladbrokes Same Race Multi BM68 (1640m)

#8 – Rashford

Looking to score a goal for punters is Rashford, who comes off placings at Beaumont and Eagle Farm.

Having form at Eagle Farm bodes well for racing at Doomben, and although he’s only a two-time winner, he’s good enough to beat this field.

He owns a nice turn-of-foot, so he should be finishing off stylishly.

Stake: 1.5 Units
