Dubbo racing tips
—
Smart Buy will need luck from the draw, but she’s likely to drop back and some with a big late run.
The Rodney Northam-trained mare showed good speed when placing at Dubbo and Scone, so having race experience on the track is ideal.
We’re happy to include her in picks despite barrier 17.
Stake: 1 Unit
We’re going with another Northam-trained runner in Gradini, who owns two wins and six placings from 14 starts.
The five-year-old mare by Toronado didn’t fire at Randwick last time out, but that followed a placing at Scone and a win at Bathurst.
Getting 2kg off her back helps, so include in picks.
Stake: 1.5 Units
King Jerry ended last preparation with three consecutive placings at Taree, and it could be good enough to figure in the finish.
The four-year-old son of Denman will need luck from a wide draw over the short distance, but if the breaks come, he could go close.
Weight comes off his back, so he’s worth including at nice odds.
Stake: 1 Unit
Smooth Esprit is a six-time winner, including two starts back at Coonamble, and he’s a three-time winner at Dubbo.
He has enough experience to handle this field, and he wouldn’t mind some firming of the track as his heavy track stats aren’t ideal.
If the track is soft or better, he’ll be tough to beat.
Stake: 1 Unit
Let Rip could go under the radar after some moderate races, but we’re prepared to take a risk with the six-year-old.
He owns a win and two placings from six starts at Dubbo, so the record is solid, and there are no superstars in this field.
Look for double-figure odds on race day.
Stake: 1 Unit
Holly Williams lines up Enterprise Legend, who won at Tamworth two starts back before finishing fifth at Grafton.
The six-year-old son of Capitalist loves running over the distance with four wins and five placings over 1100m, so that’s in his favour.
55kg on his back is enough to take him close.
Stake: 2 Units
Northam could have a big day, so we’re happy to include Upwardly Noble in our horse racing picks.
The four-year-old mare by Divine Prophet won fresh up last preparation, so she knows how to hit the ground running.
We expect odds around $3.80, so take anything close to that.
Stake: 2 Units
Looking to win his third race this preparation is Wonder Step, who won at Cowra in heavy conditions last time out.
The four-year-old son of Shalaa is a past winner at Dubbo, so having experience on the track only adds to his appeal.
Dropping to 58kg is ideal, so he goes in the mix.
Stake: 1 Unit
