Happy Valley racing tips

Race 1. (21:40) Aster Handicap (1650m)

#4 – Sterling Wongchoy

Boasting consistent form is Sterling Wongchoy, who owns three placings from his last five starts.

The six-year-old son of Demerit is only a one-time winner, but that victory came at Happy Valley, and this isn’t an overly strong field.

Punters should get each-way odds on race night.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 2. (22:10) Azalea Handicap (1200m)

#4 – Fantastic Fun

We have Fantastic Fun improving enough to win after consecutive fifths, and punters should get value odds.

The five-year-old son of Justify typically runs at double-figure odds, which should be the case again, and we expect him to run well.

Hugh Bowman rides, so include him as an each-way chance.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (22:40) Bellflower Handicap (1000m)

#3 – Beauty Thunder

Looking to cap off consecutive second placings is Beauty Thunder, who was only a half-length behind them last time out.

The five-year-old son of Night of Thunder won at Happy Valley earlier this preparation, and he doesn’t need to improve much to get back to that form.

Zac Purton riding is enough to see his odds firm on race night.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 4. (23:10) Shamrock Handicap (1200m)

#2 – Superb King

Superb King hasn’t shown much consistency throughout his career, but his placing three starts back at Happy Valley is a good form guide.

The four-year-old son of Written Tycoon will need some luck from a wide barrier, but having Purton in the saddle is a bonus.

Punters could get value odds despite having Purton riding.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (23:40) The Ireland Trophy (1200m)

#1 – King Oberon

King Oberon was good enough to win three races last campaign, including back-to-back wins at Happy Valley in October and November.

The six-year-old son of Divine Prophet owns two placings fresh up, so he finds form early, and he only needs luck from a wide draw.

He’s good enough to include in Hong Kong racing picks.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 6. (00:10) Dahlia Handicap (1800m)

#3 – Ace War

Ace War capped off consistent form with a win last time out when scoring by two lengths at Happy Valley.

The five-year-old son of Phoenix of Spain gets the services of Purton again, and that should be enough to take him close.

Barrier three is ideal, so he’ll get a dream run throughout.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 7. (00:45) Daisy Handicap (1200m)

#7 – Romantic Son

Gunning for three consecutive wins is Romantic Son, who pulled out all the stops to score at $22 odds last time out.

This isn’t an easy field, but the five-year-old son of Smart Missile is good enough to handle the rise in class with 54.5kg on his back.

He’s a four-time winner at Happy Valley, which adds to his appeal.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 8. (01:15) Hydrangea Handicap (1200m)

#10 – Straight to Glory

Straight to Glory couldn’t make it three consecutive wins last start when running sixth, but his two wins prior are good form guides.

The four-year-old son of Hellbent gets all favours off an inside draw with a light weight, and he doesn’t need to improve much to win.

Look for each-way odds on race night.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 9. (01:50) Snapdragon Handicap (1650m)

#1 – Max Que

Boasting three wins and four placings this preparation is Max Que, who has yet to finish worse than third at Happy Valley.

The five-year-old son of Akeed Mofeed was only a nose behind the winner last time out, so his record could be even more impressive.

It’s another premium ride for Purton, who could have a big night.

Stake: 2 Units
