Hong Kong Classic Mile Form Guide & Tips
(1) Packing Hermod (Best Bet – $3.75)
He was beaten last time out but rising to the mile only helps his chances, and that’s why we’re putting him on top.
His win two back at Sha Tin came over Rubylot, and with four wins from six starts, there’s no doubting his class at Group 1 level.
(2) Rubylot ($5.50)
The Hayes-trained runner got the better of Packing Hermod last time out, so we’re not leaving him out of calculations.
He has shown his ability this season with two wins and a placing, and if he finds cover from the draw, he’s good enough to beat this field.
(3) Divano (Best Roughie – $17.00)
Punters get value with Divano, who won consecutive races earlier this prep before running eighth behind Rubylot.
He was only 2.8 lengths behind Rubylot in the Racing Club Cup, and he could sneak under the radar with bookmakers.
We’re happy to include him in at the current odds.
(4) Call Me Glorious ($26.00)
His recent form isn’t good enough to win the Hong Kong Classic Mile, which is why bookmakers aren’t giving him much of a chance.
There are better bets in this race.
(5) Fast Network ($16.00)
Most of his form has come against easier company, and rising to Group 1 level could be a tough ask.
He is a three-time winner from seven starts and getting the inside draw is ideal, but we haven’t found room for him.
(6) Johannes Brahms (Best Each Way – $6.50)
The four-year-old is a classy type in the making and his form in Hong Kong has been good enough to recommend.
The former European ran second in the Gimcrack Stakes at York and he won with James McDonald riding two back at Sha Tin.
We expect him to run a good race over a suitable distance.
(7) Cap Ferrat ($8.50)
The former Australian ran second in his Hong Kong debut behind Mickley, which followed Group 1 efforts in Australia.
We’re not leaving him out, and he has a placing behind Riff Rocket in the Rosehill Guineas, and that’s excellent form.
He’s a must-include at the each-way odds.
(8) Glory Elite ($26.00)
He won well four back but his form since hasn’t been overly impressive. We can’t see him figuring in the finish.
(9) Mickley ($11.00)
Mickley is a former European who comes off a win at Sha Tin, but we’re not sure if he can repeat that effort.
Having Hugh Bowman riding helps and he’s a first four chance at best, but only include in first four bets.
(10) Lucy in the Sky ($31.00)
The four-year-old hasn’t been too far away recently, but his form would need to improve significantly to win.
The $31.00 odds aren’t surprising.
(11) My Wish ($17.00)
The future is bright for My Wish, but we don’t think he’s good enough to win at Group 1 level against the best age-group runners in Hong Kong.
A betting push on race day would make for interesting reading, but because of the quality of the field, we’re leaving him out.
(12) Top Gun ($41.00)
He’s not running well enough to compete at this level, hence the odds.
(13) Talents Ambition ($26.00)
He owns four wins and four placings from 13 starts, but those came in much easier races and he’ll find this too tough.
(14) Markwin ($11.00)
Money has come for Markwin, who ran second behind Dragon Joy last start as a $2.70 favourite.
He’s a speedy customer and bred for it, so he could figure in the finish at double-figure odds.
