Hong Kong Gold Cup Form Guide & Tips
(1) Romantic Warrior (Best Bet – $1.10)
One of the best horses in the world, hence the $1.10 odds. He made it three straight wins with a comfortable victory last start, and his only recent failure, which was a second placing, came on a dirt track.
He’s an absolute superstar, and the former Cox Plate winner should score another impressive victory, so he’s the anchor in all bets.
(2) Voyage Bubble (Best Each Way – $7.00)
Voyage Bubble would have many more wins had it not been for Romantic Warrior. He has 12 placings to his name, and although he’s still a 12-time winner, he could have had more.
He comes off a third placing behind the favourite, so he has ground to make up, but he’s being respected at $7, so include him in each-way bets.
(3) Beauty Joy ($71.00)
His best days are behind him, which is why he’s paying big odds. He’s guaranteed a top six finish, but that’s where the positives end.
He would need to find 5-6 lengths just to have a chance of finishing in the top 2/3.
(4) My Wish (Best Roughie – $11.00)
The five-year-old ran fourth against a similar field in the Steward’s Cup, which was a solid effort.
He’s capable of pulling off a big upset, and there has been steady betting support at $11, so he’s a live chance of an upset.
$2.10 for the place is a solid bet, and he can beat Voyage Bubble home.
(5) Ensued ($51.00)
His best form came much earlier in his career, and we can’t see that form returning. The inside draw is ideal, but it won’t matter much in the small field.
He is better than Beauty Joy and Winning Wing, so include him in first fours.
(6) Winning Wing ($101.00)
Winning form but massive odds. Facing a huge rise in class and we don’t expect him to handle it.
