Karaka Million 3YO Form Guide & Tips
(1) Romanoff ($27.00)
He won the Guineas two starts back, but he wasn’t able to follow it up with much at Trentham last time out.
That’s a concern, and it’s reflected in betting markets.
(2) Affirmative Action (Best Roughie – $13.00)
Second behind Romanoff in the Guineas, but he followed that run up with a placing at Ellerslie, and he’s a two-time winner here.
He loves running at headquarters, and we expect him to be fighting out the finish at generous odds.
(3) He Who Dares ($15.00)
Secone behind Well Written last start when paying big odds. Nothing wrong with that form guide, and it hasn’t been missed in the betting.
Drawn well with Opie Bosson riding, so he has enough upside to be included in picks.
(4) Argo ($31.00)
Solid efforts to score back-to-back wins earlier this prep. A good placing last start, but he has been facing easier fields.
We expect him to struggle at this level, which is akin to Group 1 racing.
(5) Sweet Ice ($71.00)
The gelding is nearing a win, but it’s likely to come in something much easier.
(6) Now Not Never ($71.00)
He broke maidens with a win at Taupo, but we can’t see that form standing up at Ellerslie, hence the big odds.
(7) Fat Cat ($101.00)
Big odds and rightfully so. He hasn’t done much since winning fresh up.
(8) Well Written (Best Bet – $1.50)
One of New Zealand’s best. The Guineas winner has been putting away fields with relative ease, and she has Australian autumn targets in sight.
She’s a star, and we’re not shocked by the odds-on quote.
(9) La Dorada (Best Each Way – $5.00)
The Te Akau-raced filly got back to her best form with a win at Trentham, and that could spark her back into life.
She went off the boil a touch, but she’s a big race winner, and she’s yet to finish worse than second at Ellerslie.
(10) Lollapalooza ($15.00)
She promised plenty, but despite running good races this season, she hasn’t quite lived up to the early hype.
Given her consistency, she’s good enough to be included in first four picks.
(11) War Princess ($41.00)
Her best racing comes in the Central Districts, and she didn’t fire last time out. Tough to recommend on that effort.
(12) Miss Ziggy ($51.00)
We don’t see southern form holding up well at Ellerslie. It rarely does, so the odds are warranted.
(13) Chilling Out ($27.00)
Shooting for three consecutive wins, but it wasn’t a tough field last start when beating Miss Ziggy.
(14) Fleeting Star ($41.00)
Consistent enough form, but improvement is needed to handle this field.
