King Charles III Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Mr Brightside ($5.50)
He’s a lovely animal, and although he had things go his way last start, it still takes a quality horse to win at Group 1 level.
He doesn’t often come to Sydney, but he owns two wins and a placing at Randwick, so that adds to his appeal. We’re happy to include him in picks based on that, and unless he runs in Hong Kong, he doesn’t run a bad race.
(2) Royal Patronage ($21.00)
He wasn’t too far away fresh up, but this is a harder task. We can’t see him running good enough sectionals to figure in the finish.
(3) Ceolwulf ($11.00)
A punters worst nightmare this season, and he hasn’t come back the same horse. We’re not sure where to put him in this race, but he’s run out of chances.
He’s enigmatic, so he could find his best and win, but we’re not taking that risk this Saturday.
(4) Lake Forest (Best Each Way – $6.00)
Last year’s Golden Eagle winner. Having a run to prepare for that race, but that doesn’t mean he can’t win it.
His win last year was excellent, and the international runners are always tough to beat in Group 1s down under. We’re not prepared to leave him out, and the $6 odds are good value.
(5) Tom Kitten ($23.00)
He was scratched from the barriers fresh up, and it has been an awkward campaign since. He hasn’t been far away, but he hasn’t threatened to win either.
We prefer backing him during the autumn months.
(6) Pericles ($8.50)
Money has come for Pericles, who won well fresh up before placing behind Autumn Glow in the Epsom.
That should be a good form guide for this race, and although we’re not backing him to win, we are happy to include him in picks.
He should be peaking for this race, hence the shortening odds.
(7) Yellow Brick ($81.00)
Our King Charles III Stakes tips can’t find room for Yellow Brick. He’s not up to this level, and he might need something easier in Queensland.
(8) Pier ($46.00)
The former Kiwi hasn’t been far away in two runs this season. He likes to settle handy and kick, but this is an elite field, and he’ll need to be good.
He opened at $61, so there has been interest, and he sneaks into first four picks.
(9) El Castello ($51.00)
He might be looking for 2400m after struggling last time out. He’s a tough runner to get a line on, so it could pay to follow betting moves.
(10) Fangirl (Best Bet – $4.00)
Stable foreman Charlie Duckworth was bullish about her chances, and that’s good enough for us. She won impressively last start when beating Lindermann, who won well last Saturday, so the form stacks up.
She knows where the line is, and that’s a good trait for a Group 1 runner. James McDonald rides, and he’s a Group 1 king.
(11) Pride of Jenni ($4.80)
Pride of Jenni silenced any critics last start when putting a margin into Treasurethe Moment. She is a past winner at Randwick when winning the Queen Elizabeth, but she’s a risk second-up.
She followed two wins last prep with a shocker both times, and although we don’t want to see it, that could happen again.
(12) Within the Law (Best Roughie – $20.00)
Getting in with 48kg could give Within the Law a chance. The filly is struggling to win races, but she comes off a second placing behind Apocalyptic.
That’s age-group form, but the weights can make a big difference. We’re intrigued to see how she performs against this field.
