Makybe Diva Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Mr Brightside ($5.50)
It was a big effort from Mr Brightside to finish second behind Treasurethe Moment last time out. It was a good return following a poor run in Hong Kong, and he’s a six-time winner second up.
We can’t leave him out of our picks considering there are only five rivals, and he has enough tactical speed to settle handy and kick clear.
(2) Tom Kitten (Best Roughie – $13.00)
He was scratched at the barriers last time out, which isn’t ideal. However, in a field of six, getting $13 for Tom Kitten is an excellent price.
The set back could hurt his spring ambitions, but his fresh up form is good, and bookmakers are taking a risk in setting him at double-figure odds.
(3) Antino ($6.50)
We’re prepared to leave Antino out of our picks after a disappointing effort fresh up. He didn’t let down with his customary speed, and that’s a concern for his spring campaign.
We can’t back 5/6 runners in this field, and the runner we’re choosing to drop is Antino. We need to see him produce more than he did at Caulfield.
(4) Mark Twain ($151.00)
The Kiwi stayer is getting miles in his legs before the cups races later this spring. He won’t figure in the finish at any stage, hence the massive odds.
(5) Via Sistina (Best Bet – $1.95)
She is the best horse in Australia, and although we were robbed of her meeting against Treasurethe Moment, that leaves Via Sistina as the clear top pick.
The Chris Waller-trained mare won well fresh up, and the Cox Plate champion is on track to defend her title at The Valley.
She’s also on track to win the Makybe Diva Stakes, and she continues to go from strength to strength. Punters should take the $1.95 before money comes for her on race day.
(6) Aeliana (Best Each Way – $3.90)
It was a big run for Aeliana to finish second behind Via Sistina, and she is a superstar in the making.
Her age-group form has held up well against the older horses, and although she’s carrying only a half-kilo less than Via Sistina, she is good enough to bridge the gap.
Waller could quinella the race, so include her in picks.
