Mornington racing tips
—
Money should come for Akari Spirit on race day following a second placing at Cranbourne, and this race is right up his alley.
The three-year-old colt by Fastnet Rock doesn’t have much to beat, and he was considered good enough to run at Flemington behind Autumn Mystery, who won on Saturday.
It’s excellent form for this level of racing.
Stake: 3.5 Units
The five-year-old gelding looked good earlier this preparation when winning three consecutive races, and something close to that form is good enough.
He has since had a run at Flemington and Moonee Valley, so coming back to a track like Mornington should help his chances.
Tom Ryan rides, and he should give him every chance to win.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Gram looks set to break maidens after winning consecutive trials at Warwick Farm, which is good form for this race.
The Freedman-trained four-year-old started his career with placings in Sydney, including one at Warwick Farm, so the form is on the board.
Coming to Victoria should be enough to see him rise through the ranks.
Stake: 3 Units
Baywatch had plenty of betting support on debut when running sixth at $2.50, and although disappointing, she’ll be better for the spell under her belt.
The four-year-old mare by Ocean Park is bred to be better than average, and we expect strong money to come for her again.
Barrier three works perfectly, so she should get every chance in the run.
Stake: 2 Units
Coming off a tidy debut effort for second at Mornington is Golden Spritz, who could go one better on Thursday.
The Julius Sandhu-trained gelding showed good speed on debut when going down narrowly, so that’s a good form guide in a tricky midweek field.
The son of Snitzel will need good early speed from out wide, but he possesses it.
Stake: 1 Unit
Regal Tycoon scored an impressive win at Kyneton last time out, which was a great way to get back to her winning ways.
The four-year-old daughter of Written Tycoon owns two wins and nine placings from 11 starts, so she has been supremely consistent.
It’s not an easy field, but we’re not leaving her out of our horse racing picks.
Stake: 2 Units
The Marg Factor might not be the most consistent type going around, but punters tend to get value odds for the mare.
She’s an eight-year-old now, but that hasn’t slowed her down. She won at Cranbourne four back before adding a placing in a small field at Mornington last start.
Getting 2kg off her back, and everything helps at this level.
Stake: 1 Unit
Bazaball Rewarded has been excellent in two wins at Mornington this prep, including a one-sided 4.8-length win last time out.
The son of Reward for Effort has matured into a nice type, and we believe she’s good enough for much higher than BM62 grade. Therefore, she’s our clear top pick.
There is more depth to this field, but if she’s close to her best, she should put them away.
Stake: 4 Units
