Mornington racing tips

Race 1. (13:30) Peninsula Kubota Maiden (1000m)

#3 – Hanuman @ $2.25

Hanuman looks to cap off two placings with a win, and he doesn’t need to improve too much to beat this field.

The Jason Warren-trained son of Exceedance placed at Geelong and Pakenham, so coming to Mornington shouldn’t do his chances any harm.

The odds are likely to shorten, so include him in picks.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 2. (14:00) Melbourne's Christmas Wonderland Maiden (1000m)

#7 – Kiwi Raider @ $2.80

Looking to make a winning debut is Kiwi Raider, who has looked better than average with two jumpout wins.

The three-year-old filly by Per Incanto won twice at Cranbourne in preparation for her debut, and it’s good to see money come for her.

She’s a well-related type, so she should go close.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 3. (14:30) Flex 23 Maiden (1500m)

#12 – Pepe @ $5.00

Pepe drifted in betting last time out at Seymour, but there has been much better support for Friday’s race.

The three-year-old son of Pierro is in good hands with Chris Waller and getting Damian Lane in the saddle adds to our confidence.

He looks good enough to beat a moderate maiden field.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 4. (15:00) The Big Screen Company Maiden (1200m)

#11 – Tagline @ $1.90

Tagline won half-a-stride after the line on debut when settling for second, but it won’t take him long to win a race.

The Matt Laurie-trained three-year-old had good betting support on that occasion, and the same support has come for this start.

$1.90 is a fair price for the short favourite.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 5. (15:30) Big Event Picnic Table BM62 (2050m)

#4 – Another Nephew @ $6.50

Xtra Rush is a short favourite at $1.50, but the conditions should suit Another Nephew should appreciate the conditions.

The Payne-trained gelding owns two wins and three placings from eight starts on soft tracks, which is a good form guide.

He represents good each-way value.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 6. (16:00) Craft Markets Australia Handicap (1500m)

#1 – Gallant Prince @ $4.60

Gallant Prince is overdue a win, but after finishing third at Sale last time out, a win should be just around the corner.

The five-year-old son of Trapeze Artist ran second at his only start at Mornington, and he’s good enough to carry the big weight to victory.

He’s worth including in horse racing picks at the odds.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 7. (16:30) Devilbend Golf Club Handicap (1000m)

#9 – Immerse @ $4.00

Seeking back-to-back wins is Immerse, who broke maiden grades for the McEvoy stable, having previously been with James Cummings.

The three-year-old filly by Frosted looks good enough to beat this field, and getting in with 55.5kg could make that happen.

Given the odds, she is worth including in picks.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 8. (17:00) Russell V Cleland BM62 (1200m)

#9 – Qatars Choice @ $3.80

Class is with Qatars Choice, who won fresh up last preparation at Canterbury, and she could hit the ground running again.

The four-year-old mare by I Am Invincible didn’t finish off in Adelaide last start, but she needed the spell, and she should come back stronger.

It’s only the wide draw going against her, but she goes close with luck.

Stake: 2 Units
