Riccarton racing tips

Race 1. (9:20) Michael Beecroft Memorial Maiden Hurdle (3100m)

#8 – Inmyshadow @ $4.60

Inmyshadow comes from the powerful jumping stable of Kevin Myers, and we thought his odds would be shorter for this race.

The nine-year-old son of Ferlax ran second two starts back before finishing fifth at Trentham, and heading south only helps his chances.

Take the each-way odds in the opener.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 2. (9:55) Avon City Ford Sydenham Hurdle (3100m)

#1 – Berry the Cash @ $3.10

Berry the Cash is nominated for jumper of the year, and he could show why on Saturday.

The nine-year-old has seven wins over the jumps from only 14 attempts, and he showed good toughness when running in Australia earlier this year.

Carrying the big weight isn’t easy, but his class should take him close.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 3. (10:28) Christchurch Casino Awards 3YO (1200m)

#4 – Rubirosa @ $2.50

Attracting attention on debut is Rubirosa, who looked good winning a trial, and well-backed runners from the Myers stable often run well.

The three-year-old son of What’s the Story is bred to handle the conditions, and although she doesn’t have race day experience, she looks speedy.

Take the odds before more money comes for her.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 4. (11:00) Speight’s Summit Ultra on Tap Handicap (1200m)

#6 – Candle @ $4.20

Seeking back-to-back wins is Candle, who turned her form around with an open class win at Oamaru.

The seven-year-old mare by Super Easy had been promising to get back to winning form, and she relishes heavy tracks.

Getting in with 54kg should make her tough to hold out.

Stake: 1 Unit

Ruakaka racing tips

Race 1. (10:45) Ben & Nola Wortleboer Memorial 3YO (1100m)

#3 – Love the Sort @ $2.15

Love the Sort looks to remain unbeaten after posting a win at Cambridge on debut, and although it came on synthetic, it was a good victory.

The three-year-old filly by Tassort won by two lengths in fine style and getting Michael McNab in the saddle helps.

Take the odds before more money comes for her.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 2. (11:18) Ruakaka Beach Front Motel Maiden (1200m)

#9 – Miss Seth @ $8.00

The Kenny Rae stable knows how to train winners at its home track, and Miss Seth is close to posting a win.

The four-year-old mare by Super Seth comes off consecutive fourths at Ruakaka, and she only needs luck from a wide draw.

Expect her to settle handy and give a good kick in the straight.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (11:54) Marsden Cove Dental BM65 (1300m)

#6 – Free Bird @ $3.90

Gunning for back-to-back wins at Ruakaka is Free Bird, who dug deep to score at double-figure odds in June.

The four-year-old mare by Tarzino should have improved with time under her belt, and it’s another good ride for McNab, who could have a big start to the season.

The $3.90 odds could firm considerably on race day.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 4. (12:30) Aotea Electric Bream Bay Sprint BM65 (1300m)

#3 – Gameplay @ $11.00

Gameplay showed good speed when winning on debut at Pukekohe, and although he didn’t fire at Ellerslie last start, he has had time to mature.

The four-year-old son of Belardo won on debut by two lengths, so if that run is replicated, he should go close at double-figure odds.

He’s worth including in picks at the current odds.

Stake: 1 Unit
