We have expert betting tips for the New Zealand racing cards this Saturday at Riccarton and Tauranga.
There is always great value at the NZ horse racing meetings, and we have our best bets across the two cards.
Riccarton racing tips
—
Giannis is only a two-time winner from 40 starts, but he could dunk on this field at double-figure odds.
The six-year-old son of Time Test owns three placings at Riccarton from 10 attempts, and because there is no standout runner in this field, we’re backing him.
Kylie Williams is riding well, and he can ride the speed.
Stake: 1 Unit
We’re snapping up the each-way odds for Peachy Keen, who hasn’t run a bad race in five attempts this preparation.
The five-year-old son of Reliable Man won at Riccarton two back before placing behind Sunset Boulevard last Saturday, and it has since won again on Wednesday.
The form stacks up nicely, and the odds are attractive.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Terri Rae lines up Akenehi, who is much better than a one-win type, and she should be tough to beat on Saturday.
The daughter of Fastnet Rock is bred to be better than average, and after finishing third last time out, she is ready to post her second win.
We recommend taking the $5.50 odds before money comes for her.
Stake: 2 Units
We have backed Tommy Shelby often, and we’re giving him another chance after racing on the first day for ninth.
He was ridden upside down when going forward, but that’s not his go. He likes to sit back with cover and work into the race, so punters should expect those tactics.
He’s fitter now, and the double-figure odds are too nice to give up.
Stake: 1 Unit

Tauranga racing tips
—
Nearing a win is Curzon Park, who ran second at Tauranga last start, and having experience at this track is important.
It can be a tricky draw for horses to judge, and being on pace always helps, so drawing an inside draw with 3kg coming off his back reads well.
Money could come for him on race day, so take the current odds.
Stake: 2 Units
Abeecee is running better than her form suggests, and we’re not surprised by the betting support.
She is a four-year-old mare coming off an improved run for fourth at Avondale, and she might have just needed time to mature.
The rise in distance did the trick, so keep backing her.
Stake: 1 Unit
Avantaggia is the boom filly after winning at Te Aroha, and she has a lot to live up to. Her mum is Avantage, who was a champion on both sides of the Tasman.
The expensive yearling ran fairly for fourth on debut before doing enough to win last start, and she’s only going to keep improving.
Her odds are always going to be unders, but she could mature into a nice type.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Waiata turned her form around with a win at Te Aroha, and the four-year-old mare did it comfortably by 2.3 lengths.
The O’Sullivan/Scott team has been firing on all cylinders this year, so she’s in good hands, and getting 1kg off her back is a bonus.
It’s an even field, and the $6 odds are worth taking.
Stake: 1.5 Units
