Newcastle racing tips

Race 1. (12:50) The Prince of Merewether Maiden (900m)

#5 – I Am a Winner @ $4.00

I Am a Winner could live up to his name by scoring on Tuesday, and punters get each-way odds to snap up.

The four-year-old son of Written Tycoon wasn’t too far away when fourth at Kembla Grange last start, and he could improve quickly.

He’s in good hands, so include him in picks.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 2. (13:25) Racing Post Bloodstock Maiden (1300m)

#12 – Via Flaminia @ $2.05

Strong money has come for Via Flaminia, who hit the line nicely for third last time out.

The three-year-old filly by Tivaci didn’t mind the heavy conditions, so she looks well-placed to win this race.

She will get back from the wide draw and hit the line with purpose.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 3. (14:05) Jennings Print Super Maiden (1250m)

#1 – From the Peak @ $6.00

Punters get good odds for From the Peak, who comes off a placing at Canterbury behind Kerber.

The four-year-old mare by Alabama Express is nearing a win, and because of her experience in town, we thought her odds would be shorter.

Getting the inside draw helps, so include her in picks at each-way odds.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 4. (14:40) Ascend Trophies C1 (1250m)

#6 – Horizons @ $4.40

Looking to put two tough runs behind her is Horizons, who didn’t fire at Morphettville at Group 1 level.

The four-year-old mare by The Autumn Sun is better dropping back in class, and her best form is good enough for this company.

Having Tim Clark riding adds to her appeal.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 5. (15:15) National Horse Transport BM64 (900m)

#9 – Quein Step @ $3.10

Looking to score a fresh up win is Quein Step, who broke maidens with a win at Goulburn last preparation.

The four-year-old mare by Sidestep has yet to finish worse than third and changing to the Ciaron Maher stable only adds to her appeal.

Take the $3.10 odds before money comes for her on race day.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 6. (15:50) Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders BM64 (900m)

#4 – Speck @ $5.00

Punters get each-way value with Speck, who ended last preparation with consecutive wins at Walcha and Randwick.

The five-year-old mare is better for two runs under her belt this campaign, and it won’t take her long to score another victory.

The odds are generous, so take the price before late money comes for her.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 7. (16:25) Newcastle & Hunter Hall of Fame Maiden (1500m)

#1 – Golden Century @ $2.20

Looking to score an overdue win is Golden Century, who opened this preparation with a third placing at Hawkesbury.

The four-year-old son of Pierro owns six placings from 10 starts, so he has been threatening to exit maiden grades.

Barrier 13 isn’t ideal, but he has time to find cover.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 8. (17:05) Tab Venue Mode BM64 (1500m)

#6 – Surreal I Am @ $7.50

Surreal I Am is already a two-time winner this preparation, and he’s good enough to bounce back from a seventh at Newcastle.

The son of I Am Invincible owns three wins and three placings from 14 starts, and although he’s yet to fire at Newcastle, that could turn around on Tuesday.

Give him another chance based on his best form.

Stake: 1 Unit
