Randwick racing tips

Race 1. (11:40) Midway BM72 (1200m)

#8 – Against the Law @ $7.50

Against the Law is running well this preparation, including a win at Hawkesbury followed by a placing at Canterbury in heavy conditions.

The wet track won’t worry the Bryce Heys-trained gelding, who owns two wins and two placings from seven starts.

He’s good enough to beat this field, so the odds are appealing.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 2. (12:15) Highway Handicap C2 (1100m)

#8 – Xcessive Force @ $3.10

Xcessive Force owns two wins from three starts, with both wins coming at Goulburn in fine style.

The Danielle Seib-trained mare by Brutal won by 1.3 lengths last start before being given a soft trial to prepare for her return.

Getting the inside draw helps her chances, so take the odds.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (12:50) Gold Coast Turf Club BM78 (2400m)

#1 – Juja Kibo @ $2.70

Boasting consecutive wins for Ciaron Maher is Juja Kibo, who won impressively at Sandown before scoring another big win at Rosehill.

The five-year-old son of Belardo did enough to score in heavy conditions last start, and he’ll likely get similar conditions on Saturday.

2kg comes off his back, and he’s the class runner of the field.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 4. (13:25) Jersey Day Andrew Wisemantel BM78 (1200m)

#2 – Kerguelen @ $4.50

Kerguelen has been backed and beaten a few times this preparation, but we’re happy to give him another chance.

He showed good speed when winning fresh up, but despite conditions being ideal in the next three runs, he hasn’t been able to win.

That could change here, and he’s yet to run worse than second on a heavy track.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 5. (14:00) The Agency Real Estate Premier’s Cup (2000m)

#2 – Saltcoats @ $2.45

Saltcoats couldn’t have been more impressive when winning last week, which is why he’s the favourite to win.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding is a two-time winner at Randwick and on a heavy track, so the statistics read well for this run.

After opening at $2.60, strong money has come for him.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 6. (14:35) Sintoro Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m)

#4 – Agarwood @ $2.45

Agarwood could be in for a good spring campaign after winning at Warwick Farm and Randwick in the autumn.

The unbeaten filly by Wootton Bassett relished heavy conditions when winning by 2.3 lengths in May, and a repeat of that effort could be enough.

It’s a tough test on Saturday, but she’s the boom horse.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 7. (15:15) Darley Toy Show Quality (1100m)

#4 – Autumn Glow @ $1.85

The hype around Autumn Glow is warranted, and she is one of Waller’s best chances of picking up a Group 1 win this season.

The four-year-old mare is unbeaten after four runs, and although conditions aren’t ideal, her class should be enough to get it done.

She’s a smart mare, and the $1.85 odds are likely to shorten.

Stake: 4 Units

Race 8. (15:50) Winx Stakes (1400m) – GROUP 1

Race 9. (16:30) Hyland Race Colours Show County (1200m)

#4 – Lazzura @ $6.00

Lazzura should have won more races last preparation had it not been for some shocking luck in the straight. However, she could show up on Saturday.

The Waller-trained four-year-old won at Rosehill three back before running close behind Lekvarte and Fangirl, which is a top effort.

James McDonald rides, and he could have a massive day.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 10. (17:05) Wilf and Rosemary Mula Anniversary BM78 (1600m)

#15 – Island Dream @ $8.50

Punters get each-way odds for Island Dream, who drops to 52.5kg following a win at Canterbury in heavy conditions.

The four-year-old mare by Divine Prophet owns three wins from six starts overall, so she knows how to win, and that’s a good sign.

Look for her to settle handy and give a good kick.

Stake: 1 Unit
