There are no standouts in this field, and although the form of Alabama State doesn’t look good, he’s better than advertised.
The four-year-old son of Alabama Express owns three wins from 14 starts overall, including a win and a placing at Rosehill.
His best form is good enough to put this field away.
Stake: 1 Unit
Rodney Northam has a good record in this race, and Fan Harder could be the best of his runners in this field.
The unbeaten son of Calyx won on debut at Muswellbrook before winning again at Tamworth in a driving effort, which was a tough performance.
If he gets luck from the draw, he should be right in the thick of it.
Stake: 1 Unit
It was good to see Juja Kibo back in winning form at Rosehill last start, and that might not be his last this spring.
The five-year-old son of Belardo is unbeaten in two runs at the track, and he keeps finding in the straight to get the job done.
Carrying 55.5kg brings him into contention.
Stake: 1.5 Units
It’s hard to get a line on the son of the il-fated Wootten Bassett, but we’re happy to give him another chance.
The five-year-old tried to make a wide run at Randwick last start, but it wasn’t the place to be. That was a forgive effort, and we’re happy to back him.
He carries a big weight, but raw ability takes the import close.
Stake: 1 Unit
Point and Shoot is another runner who can be forgiven for a couple of poor efforts this preparation.
He didn’t handle the wet track fresh up before bombing the start last time out at Randwick, so if he jumps with them, he should run better.
Betting moves will be telling but include him in horse racing picks.
Stake: 1 Unit
Beadman and Marhoona are two horses we’ve been waiting to see this spring, but we’re more excited by Beadman.
The three-year-old colt by Snitzel won by 8.3 lengths over the talented Sunrays last start, and that form has been seriously franked.
It might not be Golden Slipper form, but Slipper winners don’t have a good record fresh up.
Stake: 2 Units
Firestorm owns four fresh up wins from five starts, and he has a fair amount of class on his side.
The Waller-trained five-year-old has yet to finish worse than second in four attempts at Rosehill as well, so there is plenty of upside.
The $3.70 odds are worth taking, and they could shorten on Saturday.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 8. (16:05) Golden Rose (1400m) – GROUP 1

Gringotts will appreciate the slightly easier field after running fifth behind Via Sistina, and he has since been primed with a trial win.
The six-year-old is a seriously good racehorse, boasting 10 wins and eight placings from 22 starts, so he’s tough to discount.
61kg is a big weight, but we’re backing his class.
Stake: 3 Units
Polyglot will need luck from a wide barrier, especially over 1100m, but having James McDonald riding helps his chances.
He has been knocking on the door of a win after posting consecutive placings at Rosehill this prep, and that form should hold up well.
He keeps getting stiffed by the barriers, but he could push forward and kick gamely.
Stake: 1 Unit
