Sandown racing tips

Race 1. (15:05) Sportsbet Jockey Watch Handicap (1000m)

#4 – Dirty Harry @ $5.00

Dirty Harry wasn’t too far away from them on debut at Cranbourne when finishing fourth, and improvement is expected.

The two-year-old son of Dirty Work is still learning the caper, and the winner of his debut race, Simply Steffi, has since run in Saturday grade at Flemington.

We’re taking the each-way odds for a progressive type.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 2. (15:40) Thoroughbred Club of Australia BM70 (3000m)

#1 – Stern Idol @ $4.20

Stern Idol is guaranteed to get the distance as a jumps star, and that’s a big asset over 3000m.

The Ciaron Maher-trained gelding owns 16 wins from 38 starts, and a few of those have come on the flat, including a win and two placings over 3000m.

He’s good enough to handle this field, so take the odds.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (16:15) Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives BM78 (1400m)

#1 – Test of Love @ $3.40

Test of Love hasn’t put a foot wrong since coming back from Hong Kong, scoring wins at Sale and Sandown.

Hong Kong form is stronger than midweek Australian racing, and the five-year-old is showing why. He won by four lengths last start, and it won’t be his last.

He’s not the favourite, but he should be, so take the current odds.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 4. (16:50) Up & Coming Stars Series Maiden (1300m)

#3 – Ten Warriors @ $4.50

Ten Warriors has fitness on his side after posting three placings from five starts this preparation, which is a good record.

The five-year-old son of Saxon Warrior ran second at Pakenham two back before finishing fifth last start, and he should go close here.

The odds are worth including in picks.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (17:25) Ive BM64 (1400m)

#7 – Gold Coast Belle @ $3.20

Danny O’Brien lines up Gold Coast Belle, who broke through for a maiden win at Seymour last time out.

The three-year-old filly by So You Think scored by 2.3 lengths, so it was a professional display, and we’re not surprised to see money come for her.

She has drawn well, and she will get every chance in the run,

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 6. (18:00) Sportsbet More Places BM70 (1800m)

#12 – Savisanta @ $11.00

Punters get each-way value for Savisanta, who won well at Sale two back before struggling at Sandown last time out.

We’re forgiving his recent effort as a $5 chance, and he was only 2.6 lengths from the winner in what was a blanket finish.

Ben Melham rides, and a strong rider will help him.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 7. (18:30) Evergreen Turf BM66 (1800m)

#2 – Roulette King @ $3.00

Roulette King has been landing on green for punters after scoring at Sale and Ballarat.

The three-year-old son of Casino Prince was impressive last start when winning by 2.8 lengths, and there are more wins to come.

The odds are shortening, so snap up the current price.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 8. (19:00) Sportsbet Fixed Odds Exotics BM70 (1600m)

#3 – Champagne Jenni @ $5.00

Champagne Jenni comes off a win at Cranbourne, which is often a good form guide for racing at Sandown.

The four-year-old mare by National Defense owns three wins from 11 starts, and the penny might have dropped with her now.

She is a solid each-way play in the last race.

Stake: 1 Unit
