Tancred Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Dubai Honour (Best Each Way – $4.00)
A three-time Group 1 winner in Australia, and he’s unbeaten at Rosehill. He has class on his side, and he’s the obvious danger to the favourite.
2400m is his pet distance, and his experience running all around the world helps. Based on that, $4 is a good price from bookmakers.
He is clearly good enough to beat Aeliana, so leave him out at your peril.
(2) Vauban ($8.00)
He has yet to finish outside of the money at Rosehill, including a quality 2000m win last time out.
Most of his opposition were runners looking for more distance, but he was one of them, and rising to 2400m isn’t a worry.
He’s a trifecta and first four player.
(3) Soul of Spain ($15.00)
Second behind Vauban last time out, and the Chris Waller-trained stayer could figure in the finish. However, he will need to find a few lengths to beat the two favourites.
We have third being his best result, so he could be worth including in multiples.
(4) Wootton Verni ($27.00)
Disappointing in three runs this preparation, and this isn’t a race where horses suddenly find form. We can’t see him improving enough to go close.
(5) Valiant King ($41.00)
Produced nothing in the Melbourne Cup as one of the top picks. His two runs this prep have been solid without threatening, and he might need another run.
The Sydney Cup is the likely target, so it’s best to wait for that race during The Championships.
(6) Zarir ($201.00)
Big odds and rightfully so. He has yet to impress, and he’s searching for more distance.
(7) River of Stars (Best Roughie – $23.00)
Fourth in the Melbourne Cup, which was an excellent effort. A good run for fourth last time out, and she could sneak under the radar.
We’re happy to include her in our picks at the odds.
(8) Piggyback ($31.00)
She has run well this preparation, but she hasn’t faced this level of opposition. It’s likely to be too tough.
(9) Aeliana (Best Bet – $1.75)
She won the Ranvet last Saturday, and although the quick back-up isn’t easy, she oozes class.
Waller rarely backs them up unless they can handle it, and rising to 2400m won’t do her chances any harm, having scored at her only start over the top.
$1.75 is getting into the too short range, but she will run through many multis, so the odds could firm.
