Taree racing tips
—
Trumper has looked solid at the trials, including a placing at Beaumont, which should be a solid form guide.
There is a short-priced favourite in the mix, but Kris Lees usually gets his runners up and going early, so we’re happy to back him.
Look for a market push close to start time.
Stake: 1 Unit
Looking to cap off consecutive placings is Birdy Girl, who placed at Taree before placing at Port Macquarie last time out.
The three-year-old filly has shown good speed in both placings, and it shouldn’t take her long to win a race.
We’re happy to take the $2.45 odds from bookmakers.
Stake: 1 Unit
Navy Pier wasn’t all that far away when fourth fresh up at Beaumont in heavy conditions, and this race should be more to his liking.
The three-year-old son of Divine Prophet opened at $3.80 before being hammered in betting, which is an excellent sign.
We expect him to fire up against this field.
Stake: 2 Units
We’re not surprised by the short odds for Charleroi, who won at Kembla Grange two back before placing last time out.
The Sara Ryan-trained gelding is good enough to bounce back at skinny odds, and we expect him to be included in many multi bets.
He has the class edge, so include him in picks.
Stake: 3.5 Units
The four-year-old gelding looked good when winning back-to-back races earlier this prep, so that form stands out to us.
He didn’t fire at Canterbury two back, but he made solid ground at Tamworth last start. He also won his only start at Taree, which bodes well.
We’re happy with the $8 odds as a value bet.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Punch One Out hasn’t fired at Taree in three attempts, but he looked good winning fresh up this preparation.
Anything close to that form would be good enough to handle this field, and it’s good to see money come for him on race day.
Include him in picks against an even field.
Stake: 1 Unit
Smart Jazz showed good pace when placing at Scone and Tamworth earlier this prep, so we’re including him in picks based on those runs.
The six-year-old then finished eighth at Randwick in a tough race, but this is much easier, and we expect him to get back to his best.
He only needs luck from a wide draw to win.
Stake: 1 Unit
Singing Star hit the line well enough at Muswellbrook fresh up, and she has improvement to come.
The three-year-old daughter of Star Turn owns two wins and three placings from 10 starts, so there is nothing wrong with that form.
We expect her to be right around the mark.
Stake: 1 Unit
