The Quokka Form Guide & Tips
(1) Overpass (Best Bet – $2.00)
He grows another leg at Ascot with four starts for four wins, and he comes off a very good second placing.
He’s clearly the horse to beat, and he wins this race more often than he loses it against this level of opposition.
(2) Front Page ($8.50)
A speedy customer coming off three consecutive second placings. Second behind Private Harry last start, which is shaping up as good form.
Can’t be left out of calculations at the odds.
(3) Western Empire ($8.00)
He ended last prep with a win at Ascot in the Gold Rush. Harder here, but with Pike in the saddle, there has been some betting support.
Good enough to figure in the finish as a top four chance.
(4) Crocetti ($35.00)
He’s a nice type in New Zealand, but NZ sprinting form doesn’t always stack up well enough in Australia.
(5) Magnificent Andy ($46.00)
He enjoyed a solid preparation last time in work, but he would need to improve a lot to beat this field.
(6) Headwall (Best Each Way – $6.50)
It’s good to see some betting support because he’s a smart sprinter. He ran third behind Briasa last start, and that form checks out.
Punters get each-way odds, so we’re not leaving him out.
(7) Triple Missile ($101.00)
Big odds for a last-start winner but that came at Bunbury. He should struggle to keep up with them.
(8) Rope Them In ($31.00)
A fresh up winner at Albany before being well-held at Ascot last start. Needs to improve to beat this field.
(9) Jokers Grin ($18.00)
The future is bright for the four-year-old, but this race might have come too early in his career.
Barrier 13 is another reason to leave him out.
(10) Brave Spirit ($23.00)
Yet to win at Ascot from eight attempts and we can’t see that changing on Saturday.
(11) The Boss Lady ($20.00)
An eight-time winner at Ascot, but there are genuine Group 1 horses in this field. Given the odds, we’re happy to include her in first four picks.
(12) Generosity ($46.00)
Yet to run a bad race this prep, but winning at this level could be too tough. The odds are accurate.
(13) West Star (Best Roughie – $15.00)
A nice type in the making, and he’s good enough to figure in the finish. Unbeaten at the distance, and the odds make him a worthwhile inclusion.
(14) Comfort Me ($101.00)
Not running well enough this season to recommend.
(15) Searchin’ Roc’s ($81.00)
She showed good early form but that has tapered off. A win would be a big surprise.
(16) Snowdome ($91.00)
A two-time winner from his last three, but he needs to lift.
(17) Saloon Bar ($101.00)
Big odds and rightfully so. Shouldn’t keep up with this field.
