Toorak Handicap Form Guide & Tips
(1) Desert Lightning ($21.00)
He won well two back, and a repeat of that could be enough to see him run in the first four. He’ll likely sit on the pace and kick strongly, so the $21 odds are attractive.
(2) Pinstriped ($34.00)
He hasn’t come to hand this preparation, which is disappointing. He’s dangerous from the back of the field, but his turn-of-foot has gone elsewhere.
(3) Evaporate ($5.50)
The NZB Kiwi form is starting to show up, and it was a tough win last time out. As the odds suggest, he can’t be left out of selections.
He was good enough to run in the Cox Plate, and that’s good enough to win the Toorak Handicap.
(4) Feroce ($13.00)
That was a nice effort for third last start, but we don’t think this is an ideal target for him. We’d prefer to see him over 2000m later in the spring.
(5) Sepals (Best Bet – $4.40)
He showed his class when beating a good field last start at Group 1 level, and he’s good enough to back-to-back at the elite level.
Carrying more weight shouldn’t worry him, as he’s a tough type, and getting $4.40 is better than expected from bookmakers. We rated him at around $3.20, and he is a star in the making.
(6) Transatlantic ($6.00)
He ran second behind Evaporate last time out. $6 is too short for our liking, but we’re not leaving him out of our trifecta and first four picks.
If he drifted to around $8.50, that would be a better price to consider backing for the win.
(7) Lazzura (Best Each Way – $6.00)
Another runner that has a bright future after winning his last two. She didn’t have much luck in Sydney, but that luck has turned around in Melbourne.
She was gutsy on the speed last time out, and James McDonald and Chris Waller should be confident with the mare by Snitzel.
The $6 odds are juicy enough to include in Toorak Handicap tips.
(8) Willydoit ($16.00)
The Kiwi didn’t have many favours last start, but we don’t think he’s a good bet over the mile. Wait until he stretches out to 2400m.
(9) Leica Lucy ($9.00)
Another Kiwi runner that was massive fresh up when fourth behind Lazzura. However, she might suffer from second-up syndrome here.
She’s a lovely type, but waiting one more run might be best for punters.
(10) Damask Rose (Best Roughie – $12.00)
Add to her name to the list of Kiwis in this race. She is due a better effort after winning the NZB Kiwi with a blistering turn-of-foot.
Not much has gone her way, and punters get double-figure odds to enjoy. Based on that, we can’t leave her out of our selections.
(11) Athanatos ($17.00)
Better than the odds suggest, and having Craig Williams in the saddle with a light weight could be enough to take him close.
A sneaky first four chance if you have room for one more selection.
