Toowoomba racing tips
—
Race 1. (13:48) Empire of Japan BM70 (1300m)
#11 – Drammatica @ $11.00
Drammatica is better for three runs back from a spell and she hasn’t been far away from the prize.
The six-year-old mare by Spirit of Boom is a four-time winner, including a win at Eagle Farm before spelling last preparation.
Something close to that performance is enough.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 2. (14:33) A.G. Rigging C6 (1300m)
#7 – Set to Shine @ $4.00
Set to Shine is gunning for three consecutive wins after scoring at Doomben in heavy and good conditions.
The versatile five-year-old mare ran second at her only start at Toowoomba, and having experience at this track adds to her appeal.
Winning form is good form, so she goes on top.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 3. (14:58) Magic Millions Toowoomba Guineas (1612m)
#1 – Pope Cody @ $1.35
Pope Cody is a two-time winner from four starts, including a good win at Eagle Farm last time out.
The three-year-old colt won easily by 5.5 lengths, which makes him the one to beat in the age-group feature on Saturday.
He has time to find cover from the draw, so put him on top.
Stake: 3.5 Units
Race 4. (15:37) Eureka Stud BM78 (1200m)
#2 – Memoria @ $12.00
Memoria has been threatening to win a race this preparation, and we’re happy to keeping back her until she wins.
The five-year-old mare has yet to race on the track, but after racing against harder opposition, she should find easier to handle.
Getting 1.5kg off her back should be enough to take her close.
Stake: 3.5 Units
Race 5. (16:17) Moore Trailers BM78 (1200m)
#12 – Data Patch @ $31.00
Data Patch is running well this year, and although this is a rise in class, he looks good enough to handle it.
The six-year-old gelding by Exceed and Excel owns four wins and nine placings from 20 starts, so he knows how to get the job done.
Dropping to 52.5kg makes him a worthwhile bet.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 6. (17:00) Barrier Reef Pools C3 (1000m)
#1 – Biographer @ $9.00
Looking to win in a fresh state is Biographer, who typically hits the ground running after posting a win and two placings from four attempts.
The five-year-old son of I Am Invincible carries the top weight but getting 1.5kg off his back helps, and he doesn’t need to improve to win.
This race is there for the taking, so take the odds.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 7. (17:35) Tab Toowoomba Cup (2000m)
#4 – Caboche @ $5.50
Caboche finished strongly to score at Doomben last start, and that should be a handy form guide.
The Chris Waller-trained gelding doesn’t always kick on with it after winning but he’s the best thoroughbred in this race.
Getting each-way odds for the favourite is good value.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 8. (18:15) Equine Toowoomba Weetwood (1200m)
#1 – Yellow Brick @ $3.50
Yellow Brick is a quality type on his day, and he likes to hit the ground running with two wins and three placings from five fresh starts.
The son of The Mission owns seven wins overall, and despite carrying a big weight, he should be right in the thick of it.
We expect money to come for him on race day.
Stake: 4.5 Units
Race 9. (18:55) K&R Plumbing Supplies BM80 (1625m)
#4 – Awash @ $4.20
Punters look to end the card on a high with Awash, who won well at Sandown four back and he hasn’t been too far away since.
The five-year-old son of Merchant Navy comes off a second placing at Eagle Farm, and that’s an excellent form guide at Toowoomba.
Look for a betting push on race day.
Stake: 4 Units
