Turnbull Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Antino ($11.00)
Antino looks ready to show his best form, and although he’s yet to win at Flemington, he is never too far away.
After two runs this prep, which weren’t run to suit, we’re happy to back him in a race where the pace should be more genuine.
(2) Land Legend ($71.00)
He’s likely to get run off his feet early, hence the long odds. We can’t see him figuring in the finish.
(3) Sir Delius (Best Each Way – $5.00)
The former European let down nicely to win last time out, and he’s good enough to compete with the best of them.
He’s the fresher horse on the scene, and it’s good to see money coming for him. Take the each-way odds for your Turnbull Stakes picks.
(4) Via Sistina ($2.50)
She is still the best horse in the land, despite not winning last start. The inside draw could make it sticky, which is why she’s not on top.
However, she’s all class, and we would be surprised if she wasn’t in the top three.
(5) Moira ($31.00)
Her form has been solid without winning in Australia. Another runner likely to get run off her feet, and she might appreciate easier racing.
(6) Half Yours (Best Roughie – $11.00)
Burst onto the scene this preparation, and he’s now the Caulfield Cup favourite. He’s a good chance to win over 2000m, and his turn-of-foot is impressive.
This is the big test now, but we’re hoping he passes it with flying colours.
(7) Aeliana (Best Bet – $4.20)
Her form is excellent, and she chased gamely when the pace of the race didn’t suit. She ran past Via Sistina, so that bodes well.
Everything points towards a big effort, and having the entire length of the Flemington straight to wind up suits her better than any other runner.
Take the value odds from bookmakers.
(8) Young Werther ($126.00)
As the odds suggest, he needs to lift to win this race. We can’t see that happening.
(9) Adelaide River ($41.00)
He was better when second last time out, but he needs to find another few lengths on that effort. Likely to struggle throughout.
(10) Golden Path ($18.00)
His form this prep has been solid, and he’s not without a chance of finishing in the first four. It will take a big effort, but the ability is there.
(11) Middle Earth ($61.00)
He showed good form during the autumn, but that form hasn’t materialised this time around.
(12) Deakin ($67.00)
Better for two runs under his belt, but he wants something much longer than 2000m.
(13) Zardozi ($34.00)
He’s eyeing another run in the Melbourne Cup, and this is simply a warm-up race for the main event.
(14) River of Stars ($151.00)
Big odds and little chance of winning. Needs to improve massively to win.
