Wagga racing tips

Race 1. (13:05) Byrne Trailers Maiden (1000m)

#8 – Machete @ $2.90

Machete comes off a tidy fourth at Albury, and it shouldn’t take her long to exit maiden grades.

The four-year-old mare by Hellbent is fitter with three runs under her belt, so she is the worthy favourite for this race.

Take the $2.90 odds in the opening race.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 2. (13:40) Noel Comerford’s Auto Parts Maiden (1400m)

#12 – Super Jules @ $4.20

Super Jules looks to cap off consecutive second placings at Wagga with a win, and her odds have shortened for this race.

The four-year-old mare by Supido gets all favours from the draw, and any moisture in the surface only helps her chances.

The each-way odds are worth including before they shorten.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 3. (14:15) Waringa Distribution Maiden (1200m)

#6 – Autumn Break @ $2.45

Autumn Break looked good when winning a trial at Albury, and that holds him in good stead for his debut.

The three-year-old son of The Autumn Sun gets a valuable 2kg off his back, and that could make the difference on race day.

We recommend including him in multis before the odds shorten.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 4. (14:55) Alan Harris McDonald C1 (1600m)

#10 – Wild Annie @ $8.50

Wild Annie won well two back at Wagga before placing at Albury last start, so that’s the best form guide for this company.

The four-year-old mare by Zousain will need a touch of luck from the wide barrier, but that’s the only negative we see in her form.

The $8.50 odds are generous, so include her in picks as a value bet.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 5. (15:35) Terminate Pest Control BM58 (1600m)

#13 – Missy Spike @ $5.00

Missy Spike is only a two-time winner from 27 starts, and some of her best form comes at Wagga with four starts for a win and two placings.

The six-year-old mare by Reliable Man is better than her recent form suggests and getting in with 55.5kg adds to her appeal.

Punters get $5, and we expect those odds to shorten on race day.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 6. (16:10) JGW BM58 (1000m)

#6 – Laguna Seca @ $4.60

Laguna Seca owns two wins and eight placings from 16 starts, including a second placing at Moruya last time out.

The six-year-old son of Sebring runs his best races second-up, and although he hasn’t won for some time, it’s about time he scored.

We suggest taking the each-way odds, which are likely to shorten significantly on race day.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 7. (16:45) Avis Riverina Ian Reid Sprint (1200m)

#1 – Canny Hell @ $3.80

Most of the money has come for Canny Hell, who owns two fresh up wins from three attempts, and he’s a five-time winner overall.

The five-year-old son of Hellbent is a winner at Wagga, and he has been prepared with a trial placing at Albury.

Carrying 61kg isn’t easy, but he’s the class runner of the field.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 8. (17:20) Welcome Nicola Baldry C2 (1200m)

#3 – Sea Poem @ $3.50

Sea Poem was too good for them at Bairnsdale last time out, and she’s good enough to go back-to-back.

The four-year-old mare by Pierata showed a good turn-of-foot to score, so a repeat of that performance is enough to beat this field.

The wide draw counts against her, but her class should take her close.

Stake: 2 Units
