William Reid Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Jimmysstar (Best Bet – $2.30)
One of the best sprinters in the land, and that’s reflected in betting markets. Shooting for three wins on the bounce and getting the inside draw should be enough to take him close.
We expect his odds to firm on race day, so the $2.30 odds are worth snapping up.
(2) Jigsaw ($6.00)
He has rediscovered his best form after posting five consecutive wins, including a win in New Zealand.
His confidence levels are sky-high, and although winning at this level isn’t easy, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him score.
He is a good trifecta and first four pick.
(3) Rey Magnerio ($19.00)
His best chances come down the Flemington straight, so this could be too tough for him. He is a three-time winner at Caulfield, and he’s a fan favourite, but we’re leaving him out this time.
(4) Angel Capital (Best Each Way – $9.50)
An enigmatic sprinter, but he didn’t get all favours close to the line last start, and he should get every chance in this race.
Look for him to settle back and work into the race around the home turn. If he’s within striking distance, the $9.50 odds will look tasty.
(5) Baraqiel ($9.00)
With eight wins from 15 starts, we’re happy to include him in picks. He doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and barrier five should ensure a good trip in transit.
He won his only start at Caulfield, and he is a five-time winner over the distance, so based on statistics alone, he is a good pick.
(6) Airman ($151.00)
Big odds available and rightfully so. He would need to find 5-6 lengths to win.
(7) Tropicus ($7.00)
The Oakleigh Plate winner, and we’re not surprised by the betting support. This is a different race, but he is a big type with plenty of upside.
All four of his career wins have come at Caulfield, so include him in all bets.
(8) Magic Time (Best Roughie – $15.00)
She could be the forgotten runner, having not raced since November. She is a four-time winner fresh up, and she owns two wins at Caulfield from only three attempts.
Barrier 10 isn’t ideal, so she will likely settle back and hope to follow one into the race. If it pans out well for her, she could spring an upset.
(9) Charm Stone ($18.00)
Her fresh up form reads well, but it’s tough to know what she will do. Her best form comes in early spring, so we’re leaving her out of our William Reid Stakes picks.
(10) Benedetta ($19.00)
We believe her best form is behind her, and her odds have drifted after opening $16. She is only a chance if she rediscovers her best.
(11) Devil Night ($61.00)
Not suited at the weights, and there is no interest in his odds.
