The Rugby League World Cup Final plays this Sunday between Australia and New Zealand. It’s a replay of the first game of the tournament, where Australia scored a comeback victory, and it should be an epic final between the Trans-Tasman rivals. Australia are $1.74 favourites to win at Suncorp Stadium, but the Kiwis could be the team to beat.

We labeled New Zealand as the team to beat before the tournament kicked off, and although they lost to Australia in the opening game, we thought they were dominant for most of the game.

The Kiwis allowed two intercept tries and two tries in the air to Jack Bostock, so if they can limit those game-changing plays, they should feel confident of handling what Australia brings, especially in the forwards, where the Kiwis were extremely dominant.

Australia couldn’t get any go-forward ball, which will be a problem on Sunday. They had many calls go their way against Samoa, and we were more impressed with New Zealand’s semifinal win over Tonga in tough conditions in Newcastle.

Our only concern is that the Kiwis don’t have anyone who can defend Bostock in the air, as the Kiwis lack height, but they should have trained for this occasion, and across the park, they are the more impressive team.

The last time they met in a RLWC final at Suncorp Stadium, New Zealand won 34-20, and we expect a similar result this week. Take the $2.10 odds for the Kiwis to score an overdue World Cup victory.

This could be a breakout performance for the Kiwis, like it was when winning the World Cup in 2008 by 14 points.

We have them winning by a similar margin against Australia, and although we respect the Kangaroos, we haven’t been overly impressed by their performances.

Their forwards were dominated in the opening game against the Kiwis, and if they don’t have that platform on Sunday, it could be a one-sided final for the visitors.
