FIFA Club World Cup Quarter Finals Tips & Predictions

With just 8 teams left in the FIFA Club World Cup and with some big names out of the running already, there is a very open feel to proceedings at the quarter final stage.

Al Hilal’s chaotic win over Manchester City made the biggest splash, with Brazilian giants also putting out Inter Milan in the last 16.

For all the furore about teams going out though, tournament favourites PSG and Real Madrid remain in prominent positions in the draw, and both will fancy their chances of scooping the lucrative riches that come with winning the FIFA Club World Cup.

There will be no margin for error here in the quarter finals and four fascinating games of football lie in wait.

Two teams that overcame European big hitters in the previous round meet here, with a place in the last 4 on the line. Al Hilal rode their luck against Manchester City but held their nerve in the key moments and have the whole of the Middle East behind them heading into this one. Fluminense meanwhile continue to fly the flag for Brazilian football and their win over Inter Milan was a statement one. Fluminense are a tough nut to crack but Al Hilal are blessed with an expensively assembled squad, and they could well come out on top here.

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea haven’t hit their stride as yet in the FIFA Club World Cup, but the blues are sitting pretty in the last 8. Taking on Palmeiras next will be a serious challenge for Chelsea though, who are very much a work in progress of a side. Brazilians Palmeiras have shown their attacking prowess and defensive resolve to reach the last 8 and this is a complete free hit for them. The draw has opened up for Chelsea though and they should make no mistake in booking their place in the semi-finals in this one.

European heavyweights PSG and Bayern Munich have serenely made their way into the last 8 and the prospect of them meeting here is a mouthwatering one. European champions PSG were dominant against Inter Miami in the last round, and they will be looking for a repeat performance here. Bayern Munich meanwhile are showing their quality under Vincent Kompany, and they start this one as the underdogs. Writing off Bayern and their goal threat completely isn’t wise, but PSG should get the job done here.

Xabi Alonso is starting to make an impact at Real Madrid, and he will be desperate to see his side progress to the last 4 at the expense of Borussia Dortmund. In a repeat of the 2024 Champions League final, Dortmund know they have the tools to hurt Madrid and if they can hit them on the counter, it should make for a compelling encounter. However, Real always seem to find a way to win, especially in tournament football and they should book their semi-final spot here.
