Hawthorn vs. Carlton Predictions
—
Best Bet
The Hawks won 80-60 earlier this year, and although they need to cover a –29.5 line, they have improved since March and Carlton has regressed.
The Blues might have beaten Melbourne last week to end their losing streak, but they take on a much harder team in Hawthorn, which comes off a one-sided win over Port Adelaide, and that’s a much better form guide.
There isn’t anything Carlton does that Hawthorn can’t handle, and we expect the Blues to struggle to put points on the board. That could see the final score be around 90-50, which is enough to cover the spread and win the game comfortably.
Take the –29.5 line before money comes for the Hawks on game day, as we don’t expect money to come for the underdogs.

Same Game Multi
Jack Gunston could have a field day against Carlton’s defence, and we’re taking the value odds for him to score 3+ goals. He scored three last week against Port Adelaide, so include the $2.30 odds in our AFL same game multis.
We also like Calsher Dear to score 2+ goals at $1.98. He has five goals from his last five games, and he has emerged as one of the better goal scoring options for the Hawks.
We predict around 140-150 points being scored in this game. Carlton is likely to struggle offensively, so include under 160.5 points in AFL picks this week.

Best Value Bet
Gunston could get the Hawks off to a fast start, and we’re pleasantly surprised by the $8.25 odds available from bookmakers.
He likes to put himself in contention in the first quarter, which often sees him scoring one of the first few goals. Given the odds, we’re happy to include him in our picks at the value price.
