Sydney vs. Carlton Predictions
—
Best Bet
It’s surprising to see both Sydney and Carlton sitting outside the top eight, but we expected more from Carlton. However, after a slow start to 2025, the Blues have scored four wins from their last five games, including wins over St Kilda and Geelong.
Those are quality wins for a team that has top four ambitions, and with the likes of Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay starting to catch fire in the goal scorer department, they’re good enough to beat any team in the AFL.
They’re looking to get revenge from a 117-65 loss last year. It was a one-sided affair, but 2024 Sydney is a lot different to 2025 Sydney. Last year’s grand finalists have three wins and six losses, and after losing to Essendon last week, we’re happy to bet against them.

Same Game Multi
Bookmakers expect a low scoring affair with the line at 164.5, but it’s too low for us to ignore. They scored 182 points in their most recent meeting, and Carlton scored only 65 points. That suggests they’ll score more points on Friday, so lock in the line with same game multis.
We’re taking the short odds for Charlie Curnow to score 2+ goals. Boasting 14 goals from his last five games, including three goals last week, Curnow is the primary scoring threat for Carlton, and he should get every opportunity to kick goals against a Sydney defence that allowed 117 and 109 points against Gold Coast and Collingwood respectively.
We also like Patrick Cripps 25+ disposals. He’s an important player for Carlton, and he comes off a 26-disposal game against St Kilda. He also had 29 earlier this season, so the champion player is worth including at $1.50.

Best Value Bet
We don’t often take this option, but we’re picking Sydney to lead at halftime and Carlton to win the game. Sydney is good enough to start well in front of their home crowd, but the pressure of Carlton’s midfield could turn the game in the second half.
Given the odds available, we’re happy with the risk level of this bet. The perfect scenario is Sydney leading by under a goal at the half before Carlton runs over them late.
