West Coast vs. Melbourne Predictions

Best Bet

Melbourne –15.5 @ $1.90

There are signs of life from Melbourne, which turned its form around with consecutive wins over Fremantle and Richmond. We expected the win over Richmond, but beating Fremantle is a good form guide. It’s hard to know what Melbourne will produce week-to-week, but it’s not hard to know what West Coast will produce. The Eagles are winless after seven games, which is the status quo for the struggling franchise. They went close to beating Essendon, but suffered one-sided losses to Hawthorn, Carlton, GWS, and Fremantle. Therefore, if Melbourne plays at the same level as the last two weeks, it should have no problem covering a –15.5 spread on the road.

Same Game Multi

Melbourne –15.5, Christian Petracca 2+ Goals, Ed Langdon 20+ Disposals, Total Match Points Over 159.5 @ $6.75

Punters get a low line of 159.5 points, and although that’s because West Coast doesn’t score big totals, we’re backing the over with confidence. They scored 170 and 175 points in two meetings last year, and that’s where the line should be. Based on those results, punters should be confident over the final score being around 94-69, which is good enough for Melbourne –15.5 and the over. Christian Petracca is a good reason why we’re backing Melbourne, and he is in goal scoring form. He kicked two goals last week against Richmond, and he should get ample opportunity against a poor West Coast defence. We’re also taking Ed Langdon 20+ disposals. He had 28 last week, and he has had 20+ in four of his last five games. He’s only a $1.49 chance, but those odds are worth including in AFL same game multis.

Best Value Bet

Melbourne Wire-to-Wire @ $2.20

We predicted Melbourne to be paying around $1.95 for a wire-to-wire victory, so the $2.20 is a good value bet. West Coast isn’t a team punters want to regularly back, especially to lead after the first quarter. It struggles from the outset, and with Melbourne boasting a quality team on paper, its scorers could have a field day from the outset. Take the odds before money inevitably comes for Melbourne on the weekend.
