Best Bet

After the Thunder failed to put up much of a fight against the Stars on Sunday night, we can’t include them in our Big Bash picks. They scored just 128 runs and allowed the Stars to drop just one wicket in the chase.

It was a poor showing, and although the Scorchers have only one win in their campaign, they have looked more dangerous. They have an experienced team with the likes of Mitch Marsh and Finn Allen, who can post a big total.

It’s a heavy batting lineup for the Scorchers compared to their bowling attack, so scoring around 180 runs is important. Against a struggling Thunder bowling attack, they should have no problem setting a big target or chasing them down.

We expect big performances from Marsh and Allen. If the Scorchers want any chance of another BBL title, they need to step up to the plate.

Marsh’s experience playing international cricket should start to show at the halfway stage, and we have him scoring over 23.5 runs. We have Allen scoring over 19.5 runs, and the Kiwi international, who is still only 26 years old, can score 20 runs in quick time.

Conversely, we have David Warner’s struggles to continue. He’s not playing his best cricket, and his best days could be well behind him. The 23.5-run line is higher than expected, so take the under.

Allen has one of the more powerful bats in the Big Bash, and although playing big shots early in the game is a risk, it tends to pay off for the Kiwi.

With the Scorchers struggling with form, more is needed from Allen, so he could play a more conservative game, which could lead to a big total.

He is good enough to post a 50-60-run total and pay handsome $4.75 odds.
