Wilder vs Zhang Tips

Wilder has fallen down the heavyweight rankings after losing three of his last four fights, and we’re questioning his drive.

The American could be purely boxing to earn money, which a lot of boxers do. However, if he’s still serious about getting another shot at the heavyweight title, he needs to beat China’s Zhang.

After losing to Tyson Fury twice and then Joseph Parker in a big upset, Wilder needs to collect himself, and the $2.40 underdog meets an opponent he can handle.

Zhang is as tough as they come, but he doesn’t have the explosiveness of Wilder, or at least what Wilder used to have. Wilder used to be one of the best one-punch fighters in the world, but he wasn’t able to land a punch on Parker, which isn’t a good form guide.

Zhang also comes off a loss to Parker, but it was a little closer. It was a majority decision loss, and he looked ahead in the early stages before tiring late.

That followed consecutive stoppages against Britian’s Joe Joyce, so punters should be more confident with the $1.65 favourite.

There is more upside with Zhang, who might be 41 years old, but Wilder looks beyond repair. His losses to Fury seemingly derailed his career, and we can’t see him bouncing back in Saudi Arabia.

Take Zhang at $1.65, and there is value with him to win by knockout at $2.05. It’s unlikely to go the distance, so Zhang by knockout is our top boxing pick.

Bet: Zhilei Zhang @ $1.65

Wilder vs Zhang Undercard Picks

There is big interest in Raymond Ford vs Nick Ball, and there is great value with Ball.

He comes off a shocking draw against Rey Vargas, where it looked like he won, but the judging was very suspect.

The 27-year-old Brit looked much better when beating Isaac Dogboe, who was considering one of the better British boxers on the rise.

We think his form is better than Ford’s, who scored a TKO win with seven seconds left against Otabek Kholmatov. He was losing the fight clearly up until that point, so although it was a clutch late win, his opponent shouldn’t have allowed it to happen.

Punters get $2.45 for Ball, and that’s the best value on the Wilder vs Zhang undercard.

The other premier fight is Filip Hrgovic vs Daniel Dubois, and we’re backing Hrgovic to win by knockout at $1.92.

It’s a fair price for the 31-year-old Croation, who scored a win over Zhang in 2022. He followed it up with three consecutive victories, including the last two wins by TKO against lower level fighters.

We’re not sure why he has been facing easy opponents, but with his last fight coming in this stadium, he’s used to the atmosphere.

Dubois is falling down the rankings after getting knocked out by Usyk, and the more desperate fighter might not get it done.

Class is with the favourite, who could score a big KO win.

Bet: Nick Ball @ $2.45
