Players Championship Tips & Predictions

Best Bet

Ludvig Aberg @ $21.00

The Players is often won by a rising star, and although Ludvig Aberg is a household name, he has yet to win one of the bigger tournaments.

The Swede went close at The Masters, but he came up short behind Scottie Scheffler, and winning The Players would get him back on track after going winless since February. He is a live chance after playing well last week, and that should top him off nicely for The Players.

The 26-year-old plays well early in the year, which adds to his appeal, and the $21 odds are generous from bookmakers. We rated him at $16, and Sawgrass plays into his strengths.

Next Best

Russell Henley @ $26.00

Putting well at Sawgrass is important, so we’re including one of the best putters on the PGA Tour in our Players Championship picks.

Russell Henley only needs to hit the ball well to post a good finish, and he has been threatening to win a big tournament for a few months. He is a solid player, who has steadily risen the rankings, and he could get paid off with a statement win.

The American will give punters a good sight, as he doesn’t often have a bad tournament, so he’s a value pick at $26.

Best Value Bet

Cameron Young @ $34.00

Our golf predictions have Cameron Young playing well after posting a good finish last week.

The former PGA Tour Rookie of the Year broke the ceiling last year when scoring an overdue win, and he has become one of the more consistent players on the tour.

Young had been letting himself down with his attitude, but scoring a win in the Wyndham Championship got him refocused. He didn’t face an overly tough field, but he won by six strokes, so he has quality written all over him.

It’s the perfect tournament for a player like Young to win, so snap up the $34 odds.

Best Roughie

Jordan Spieth @ $71.00

We have backed Jordan Spieth a few times this year, and although yet to win, he finished T11 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week, which was an encouraging effort.

The well-liked American once dominated the PGA Tour, and although he’s not playing his best golf, winning The Players would make for a great story. It’s a tournament where story lines are often written, and a player like Spieth has every chance to win.

If he can regain his fine putting form, he’ll be a force. We’re happy to take the risk considering the mammoth $71 odds.

Top 10

Collin Morikawa @ $2.75

We backed Adam Scott top 10 last week and he finished T11, so we’re looking to rebound from heartbreak with Collin Morikawa.

The American is a tournament winner this year at Pebble Beach, and his form since has been excellent, which is why he’s on the second line of betting for a top 10 finish.

We fancy his chances of playing well at Sawgrass, and being one of the best ball strikers is a nice position to be in.
