National Distance Championship Final Form Guide & Tips
(1) Beast Royale ($51.00)
Two of the slowest dogs in the field got the inside traps, including Beast Royale. He won well last start, but we can’t see him beating this red-hot Group 1 field.
The odds are warranted, so leave him out of picks.
(2) Isabella’s Blitz ($41.00)
She is another long-shot chance, and although her form is very consistent, we haven’t seen her run well against this quality of opposition.
The South Australian representative was beaten last start, so she needs to turn that form around in a big way.
(3) Ethanol Water (Best Each Way – $3.80)
Class is with Ethanol Water, who owns 32 wins and 24 placings from 80 starts, and the $3.80 odds are worth taking.
She ran a close second behind Without a Trace last start, and she has every chance of turning the tables on the current favourite.
If she gets clear running room early, she could settle handy and kick clear.
(4) Lady Wilson (Best Roughie – $6.50)
Lady Wilson only narrowly went down to Late Night News last start at Wentworth Park, but she is a bomb-proof type.
She likes to settle on the speed, which is always a positive, and although $6.50 odds isn’t a roughie, she’s the best of the non-favourites.
Expect her to settle handy and give a good sight for punters.
(5) Without a Trace (Best Bet – $2.70)
A champion in the making after winning 10 of 18 starts, and she’s our top pick. She reeled in Ethanol Water last time out, and that is an excellent form guide.
She will get back in the run, so the draw doesn’t matter too much, and she will be booming down the outside in the back straight.
She’s the most exciting runner in the National Distance Championship, and the Group 1 is hers for the taking.
(6) Late Night News ($6.00)
A first four chance based on her win over Lady Wilson at Wenty last start. That was a good return to form, and he could figure in the finish.
We’re not leaving him out of our picks at the current odds, and he could boost payouts with a top three finish.
(7) Iron Works ($21.00)
He qualified with a win at Cannington, but we don’t think that’s the best form guide for this race. He will need to improve on that effort, hence the long odds.
(8) Red Dirt Road ($5.00)
It’s tough to line up the Queensland form, but being the home dog makes him a worthwhile inclusion.
He owns six wins from eight starts at Q2 Parklands, which is an excellent record, and he hasn’t been missed in betting markets.
He’s worth including in multiples.
(9) Light of Mine ($9.00)
Second behind Red Dirt Road last start, but she’s unlikely to get a run in the final. She had little favours two back, and she would be included if she got the run.
(10) Goldstar Ginny ($46.00)
She is a consistent type, but we can’t see her winning if she got a run.
