RACING NOW Kicking off a big week of racing is an eight-race card at Bairnsdale, which is mostly full of low-level races. However, there are some progressive types in action on the Soft 6 card, which is a surface that most runners will appreciate in country Victoria.
Race 1. (13:30) Grandview Receptions Maiden (1600m)
#9 - Top Liner @ $6.00

Punters get each-way odds for Top Liner, who should be better with racing under his belt.
He didn’t get all favours when running sixth at Bairnsdale fresh up, after being caught between runners, but rising to 1600m is ideal.
It’s an even field, so he should get his chance to win.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 2. (14:00) Bet365 Same Race Multi Maiden (1200m)
#4 - Castelli in Aria @ $4.20

Castelli in Aria has been heavily backed to win after opening at $9, and that’s a serious move in a maiden race.
The five-year-old mare had only one run last preparation, but she looked much better during her first prep when placing at Bairnsdale, Echuca, and Bendigo.
If that form returns, she should be tough to beat.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 3. (14:30) Reece Plumbing Maiden (1000m)
#11 - Southern Sway @ $2.10

Looking to make a winning debut is Southern Sway, who comes off some good jumpouts at Flemington, which is a good form guide.
The three-year-old filly by Alabama Express opened at $4.60 before firming close to an odds-on price, which is a big move.
Barrier 12 isn’t ideal, but she should get every chance to win.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 4. (15:00) Four'N'Twenty Maiden (2200m)
#4 - Churchill Lane @ $3.80

Churchill Lane has been backed and beaten a few times this season, but we’re giving him another chance.
The four-year-old son of Churchill has been threatening to break maidens after posting two placings from his last three runs, so he’s getting close.
The $3.80 odds are good enough to include for value.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 5. (14:30) Hygain Edge BM56 (2200m)
#9 - Phoenician @ $7.50

Looking to cap off solid form with a win is Phoenician, who ran second at Bairnsdale last time out, and that was a good effort.
The five-year-old son of Toronado might only be a one-race winner, but he has 15 placings from 32 starts, so he’s consistent.
Barrier three is ideal, and punters get value odds.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 6. (16:00) Greenway Turf Solutions BM56 (1000m)
#2 - Astari @ $5.50

Mark Walkr lines up Astari, who was too good for them at Echuca two back, and things didn’t pan out well at Ballarat.
The four-year-old son of Starspangledbanner gets a valuable 3kg claimer in the saddle, and that’s enough to take him close.
We’re happy with the each-way odds available in an even field.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 7. (16:30) East Gippsland Communities Day BM56 (1200m)
#10 - I Am Algadon @ $2.70

Hoping to remain unbeaten is I Am Algadon, who scored a tidy win on debut at Tatura when holding off Snitzel Tycoon.
That form has been franked, and the three-year-old filly by I Am Immortal looks good enough rise through the grades, especially with 2kg coming off her back.
We expect late money to come for her, so include her in horse racing picks.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 8. (17:00) TFRM BM56 (1600m)
#10 - Torn @ $10.00

Torn is always worth including in picks at double-figure odds, and although he can be tough to follow, he’s often there to strike at the turn.
The Ben Brisbourne-trained gelding owns three wins and 15 placings from 37 starts, and he could make a winning track debut.
He doesn’t mind the sting out of the track, so take the odds.
Stake: 1 Unit
