Champions Mile Form Guide & Tips
(1) Mr Brightside (Best Each Way – $4.00)
Mr Brightside is tough enough to win the Champions Mile, and he doesn’t know how to put a foot wrong.
His worst performance over his last 10 starts was a fourth behind Via Sistina in the Cox Plate, so he’s good enough to beat the locals.
(2) Voyage Bubble (Best Bet – $2.00)
The testing material having won four races on the bounce, including three at Group 1 level. This is his toughest test to date, but he looks well-placed with James McDonald riding.
$2 is about where we priced him, and although we wouldn’t take any shorter, we’re happy to double our money.
(3) Gaia Force ($17.00)
There has been some money for the Japanese runner, who hasn’t shown much recently, but punters are taking him on trust.
He hasn’t won for a long time, and we can’t see that changing on Sunday.
(4) Beauty Eternal ($26.00)
He comes off a disappointing effort, and he needs to improve lengths to keep up with this field.
We priced him at around $41, so there isn’t much value with his current Champions Mile odds.
(5) Beauty Joy ($67.00)
Beauty Joy is another Hong Kong runner struggling to show his best form. He ran 3.5 lengths behind Divano last start, which isn’t ideal form for Group 1 racing.
(6) Galaxy Patch (Best Roughie – $10.00)
He comes off a second placing behind Straight Arron, which followed performances behind Voyage Bubble, including a second placing.
It won’t be easy to beat the favourite, but he’s good enough to figure in the finish.
(7) Royal Patronage ($13.00)
Another Australian runner that fought bravely behind Stefi Magnetica last time out in the Doncaster Mile.
He can sit on the speed and give a good kick, so we’re happy to include him in picks in the hopes that Australian form measures up.
(8) Changcheng Glory ($51.00)
A winner earlier this prep but his form since hasn’t been inspiring. We can’t include him in our Champions Mile picks at the odds.
(9) Happy Together ($101.00)
Triple figure odds and rightfully so. Never runs a shocker, but they will outclass him here.
(10) Red Lion ($41.00)
Not running well this season, and he’s looking for something much easier now.
(11) Goemon ($51.00)
A British runner that finished ninth at Meydan behind Soul Rush. He needs to improve many lengths on that performance.
(12) My Wish ($8.00)
A nice start to his career, including a second in the Hong Kong Derby last time out. Not suited by the weight scale, which is our only worry.
The $8 odds suggest that he shouldn’t be left out of picks.
(13) Sunlight Power ($17.00)
Failed to fire at Group 2 level last start and he hasn’t made it into our picks. It could be too tough, and $17 isn’t a value price.
