Doomben Cup Form Guide & Tips
(1) Antino (Best Bet – $3.40)
Antino couldn’t have been more impressive when winning by 3.5 lengths at Gold Coast against a hot field.
The six-year-old is clearly back to his best, and he’s unbeaten in two starts at Doomben, so we’re happy to put him on top with Doomben 10,000 tips.
(2) Lindermann ($9.00)
He has been disappointing this preparation, and although he has a few placings, he should have won a couple of races.
Barrier three is ideal, but his form in wet conditions isn’t ideal, so we’re prepared to leave him out of our picks this time around.
(3) Fawkner Park ($8.00)
He ran second behind Antino last start, which is the best form guide for this race. Based on that run, we’re happy to include him in picks.
His consistent form this season is solid enough to recommend, and he owns a win and placing in two attempts at Doomben.
(4) Bois D’argent ($20.00)
The eight-year-old isn’t the easiest runner to follow. He won well two back before struggling at Gold Coast, so we can’t include him based on that effort.
(5) Militarize (Best Roughie – $16.00)
We backed Militarize last start when running fifth, and it could be a sign of things to come.
He hasn’t won a race in some time, but the ability is there, and he just needs time to wind up down the straight.
The odds are generous, so include him as the best roughie.
(6) My Oberon ($16.00)
He is another runner that doesn’t win out of turn. His third behind Punch Lane last start was solid, but rising to Group 1 level doesn’t help.
We would wait for something a touch easier.
(7) Kovalica ($10.00)
The son of Ocean Park ran third behind Antino last start. Any firming of the surface helps his chances, and there has been solid betting support.
We’re happy to include him in first four picks, especially with the Waller/McDonald combination.
(8) Eliyass ($8.50)
His form in the spring was excellent, but it’s tough to get excited by his recent efforts, especially at the odds.
He pulled up with a cough last start, so it could pay to forgive that run, but we want to give him another run before climbing on board.
(9) Osipenko ($19.00)
His finish for second in the Hawkesbury Cup was good, but rising to Group 1 level could find him out.
Barrier 12 doesn’t help his chances, so we’re not putting him in our picks.
(10) Klondike ($91.00)
Punters get big odds for Klondike and rightfully so. His last start was awful, and we can’t see any quick improvement coming.
(12) Pride of Jenni (Best Each Way – $4.40)
Pride of Jenni is a warrior, and although her run two back wasn’t good, she bounced back with an all-the-way win at Caulfield.
She has yet to run at Doomben, but it’s a track where she could lead and kick away around the turn for a big victory.
She’s exciting to watch, and she has the class edge with over $10 million in the bank.
(13) Miss Joelene ($35.00)
She doesn’t have a bad record but she’s not up to this level.
