Doomben racing tips

Race 1. (11:48) XXXX BM85 (1600m)

#2 – Victory Win @ $7.50

Each-way value is with Victory Win, who owns six wins from 15 starts, including three wins at Doomben.

There’s nothing wrong with his form, and although only fifth at Eagle Farm last start, he was only 1.3 lengths behind the winner.

Take the value odds in the opening race.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 2. (12:23) The Star BM78 (1350m)

#10 – Winsome Star @ $3.30

Gunning for consecutive wins is Winsome Star, who won by 2.8 lengths last time out, which was a good effort.

The four-year-old son of Star Turn is only a two-time winner, but he also has nine placings, which is a good form guide.

Carrying 55.5kg makes him tough to beat, hence the shortening odds.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 3. (12:58) Impressu Plate (1350m)

#2 – Goodlucktome @ $3.90

Goodlucktome doesn’t know how to run a bad race after posting three wins and three placings from nine starts.

The three-year-old son of Written Tycoon is a past winner at Doomben, and he was a short margin behind Boomtown Boss at Eagle Farm last start.

Having Ryan Maloney in the saddle only helps his chances.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 4. (13:33) Sky Racing Bernborough Quality (1600m)

#1 – Port Lockroy @ $5.50

Looking to improve on his form is Port Lockroy, who can beat this field, and we’re happy to give him another chance.

The son of Better than Ready has been facing tough fields, including running behind Gringotts and Stefi Magnetica in Sydney.

That’s good form, so take the each-way odds.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 5. (14:08) Seven Spirit of Boom Classic (1200m)

#7 – United States @ $8.50

United States has been backed and beaten so far throughout his career, but the colt deserves another chance on Saturday.

He ran fourth behind Skyhook in a tough race at Rosehill, and he has since been primed with a trial win at Randwick.

James McDonald rides and bookmakers might have missed a trick at $8.50.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 6. (14:43) JRA Chairman's Quality (2000m)

#1 – Sir Delius @ $2.40

Most of the early money has come for Sir Delius, who is an imported runner that comes off two trial wins.

The Waterhouse/Bott-trained runner owns three wins from six starts in France, and that form measures up well in Australia.

He should be tough to beat, and the odds could shorten.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 7. (15:22) Magic Millions Bright Shadow (1110m)

#7 – Navyonthehighway @ $6.50

We’re prepared to give Navyonthehighway another chance following a disappointing effort fresh up when sixth at Eagle Farm.

The four-year-old mare had to soak up the pressure in front, and she was entitled to get tired late.

55.5kg is ideal and she’s going under the radar in betting markets.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 8. (16:02) Doomben 10,000 (1200m) – GROUP 1

Race 9. (16:38) HKJC World Pool Rough Habit Plate (2000m)

#1 – Firm Agreement @ $4.60

Firm Agreement has run second behind some smart types recently, including Aeliana and Pocketing, so the form checks out.

He was beaten by Shangri La Spring last start, but he was charging late, and this race looks more suitable for him.

Getting each-way odds is ideal, so snap them up.

Stake: 2 Units
