King Charles III Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Pericles ($31.00)
His form this season has been solid without being brilliant, and we think he’s outclassed at this level of racing.
(2) My Oberon ($16.00)
He seems to pop up when least expected, like he did when running second behind Fangirl two starts back.
He’s not consistent, but he’s good enough to figure in the finish, so we’re including him at double-figure odds for a top four finish.
(3) Lion’s Roar ($126.00)
The former Derby winner scored a long overdue win last start, but as the betting drift suggests, he won’t be winning consecutive races.
His opening odds of $61.00 immediately went to $126.00.
(4) Major Beel ($71.00)
Including stayers over 1600m is a risk, and although he’s a two-time winner over the mile, we believe he’s better over much longer.
(5) New Energy ($61.00)
The former import has had much better chances to show winning form in Australia, and we can’t see him winning at Group 1 level.
(6) Ceolwulf (Best Each Way – $8.00)
That was a smart win against easier opposition last start, but he’s good enough to handle some of the best types going around.
He’s a versatile type with upside, and if he can carry the weight, he should be right in the mix at each-way odds.
(7) Celestial Legend ($13.00)
Last season’s boom colt hasn’t come up this preparation, which is disappointing. We want to give him another chance, but we need to see improvement before we do.
(8) Tom Kitten ($18.00)
He’s good enough to be competitive at the top level, so he could sneak into first four selections.
Tom Kitten is talented at his best, and Jamie Kah only needs to find cover from out wide to see him run close.
(9) Pride of Jenni (Best Bet – $2.30)
She’s arguably the best thoroughbred in Australia providing she’s ridden forward.
When she leads by herself, she simply doesn’t get caught. We saw that last start and we saw it in the QEII during The Championships.
Declan Bates will push forward and they’ll have to be good to catch her.
(10) Fangirl ($3.50)
We liked the way she picked them up last start to score a comfortable win, and we’re not surprised by the odds.
She’s not on the same level as the favourite, but she’s a quality type who can’t be left out.
(11) Zougotcha ($27.00)
Better for two runs back from a spell but we wanted to see more from her last start. The odds tell the story.
(12) Amelia’s Jewel (Best Roughie – $17.00)
The former Perth runner hasn’t won recently, but she has been knocking on the door after posting two recent placings.
Given the odds, we’re happy to include her in picks.
